What kind of nonsense...

So that you may grasp my quarrel with this particular conflict in game, let me start by saying I am currently playing a Nord Warrior who uses no magic or bows. My character is purely melee. Now I have progressed enough into the story that dragons are prevalent in the world. I have managed to kill 3 thus far (all that I have encountered), all of which have flown around and at SOME point landed briefly, allowing for melee attacks. Until TODAY, I am actually in the middle of a ridiculous battle - more of a, Dragon flies around reigning fire down upon me :flamed: , while I run around in terror - that has lasted the better part of 8 minutes now without the dragon so much as even thinking about landing.

How in the world am I supposed to kill it with no real damaging spells in my inventory, nor any arrows or a bow?

Edit: I meant to ask, has anyone else experienced a dragon afraid of gravity?

In any type of competition/battle (you vs dragon) if you are one dimensional you live and die by it.

Some dragons wont land until you do enough damage. Only the weaker ones land so you should pick up archery or something. I know you don't want to but you'd just be running away from dragons. :flamethrower: :bolt:

What would you do if you were an intelligent dragon trying to kill a guy, and that guy never shot lighting bolts at you from his hands or drew a bow to shoot you, but just kept holding an axe waiting for you to land?

I know what I'd do - I'd keep flying around and raining [;)] fire down on him from the skies where he couldn't touch me.

Do you have any shouts that would be useful? Right now I've only got the first two, neither of which would be useful in that situation.

i haven't found any that wouldn't land.

have you tried hiding behind terrain while it tries its fire/ice on you? that seems to 'frustrate' them into landing

So, your mad that the dragon wont let you hit it....sounds like a smart dragon.
I don't know about you but if I could fly and someone was standing on the ground with a big sword I probably wouldn't land either.

Usually the dragon has to find a very open area to land in...I've fought in some weird terrain before and after dealing X amount of damage...the dragon flew around for like 5 minutes, before finally "crashing" down in the first open area it could find, which happened to be pretty far away from where the fight started.

So, my advice, run to a more open area...see if that makes him land.

I only have the first two as well, not very far into the Main Quest line, because I want to explore more of the world first.

This dragon is a real jerk and doesn't seem to get frustrated like I do lol. He just patiently waits for me to come out of hiding, or he flies off a bit and kills some wolves or sabre tooth cats.

Shout seems to work.... gotta wait a bit for cooldown.... but think it confuses the dragon, seeing the little tin man cursing at him in his own language. He simply has to investigate it.

This is the answer right here.

If the dragon doesn't have a nice open landing pad, then he'll simply fly around and own you.

I know this because I've been in your situation countless times.

They always tend to drop by when I'm scaling a mountain. ._.

Shooting a dragon mid-flight with a bow and a laggy mouse is impossible. I've had to wait about 15 minutes once for a dragon to land.

Try climbing a mountain nearby, waiting for the dragon to get lower, and jumping on its back.

Or to your death. Really, either one works.

yeah, +1 I forgot that part. If you're hiding in a forest area with nowhere for the dragon to land it will sometimes actually fly away to land. then returns a few seconds later. this happened to me before.

I have had a couple of them fly around and then take off out of sight. I am fairly melee myself, here is how to get their attention to land. When they hover closer to the ground use the unrelenting force shout on them. That'll get their attention and also there has to be a decent enough clearing for them to land otherwise they'll just keep flying around. Just because you are melee, you still have the shouts to use as range spells on the dragons. Thats what they were made for............ :)

If you're an archer class, it's worth investing in the perk that slows down time when you're zoomed in with your bow. My archer is now a certified badass!

haha, they always tend to fly away from me. sometimes they just leave or they land further away, making me run for them :P also when you use a shout like fus do rah it seems like it makes them land, it does so for me.

Heaven forbid someone shares an issue they seem to be having in an attempt to gain a perspective they may not have otherwise, through the use of a forum DEDICATED to this game. I hardly see any complaint in my original post, the only complaining I see here is your unnecessary comment, complaining about complaining. I think it's time you took a break from being a complete d*uche bag for a little while, ok?

Thank you though, to those of you who took the time to share your legitimate comments. I'm sure I'll work it out eventually :twirl:
