All this talk of multiplayer has given me an idea...

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 3:36 am

So as most of us agree, TES is a refined and pure deliciously wonderful singleplayer series. A TON of people since Skyrim came out have been begging for multiplayer and I suggested this a while ago but it fell on deaf ears.

Heres the idea that I suggested...

An Arena, perhaps in another plane (maybe in Oblivion, cause ya know, that place is rough) that players would access from within Skyrim at an altar/portal/oblivion gate...

Once there, it would be a place of chaos and dismay where players could show off their armor/weapons/skills and compete or form teams for multiplayer arena matches to appease the twisted desires of a Daedric Lord.

Now I know most people (including myself) never want to see multiplayer in the open world sense, but this could be a fun and exciting alternate take on the whole thing. Bringing together the community and allowing for a badass activity for those who feel like they've "done everything" in Skyrim.

Thoughts? (And please be civil)

I just posted about this. Please vote. Me and my friends always wanted Oblivion's Arena opened up. Skyrim would be great.

This has been discussed a lot in the past. The majority of players don't wish for any multiplayer. Although 'til Oblivion it was the old school gamers. Skyrim and Oblivion combined, I feel, has changed the player base of the series. Todd has stated many times they'll never make a multiplayer game. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I, at times, have thought I wish this had co-op so I could play with my brother who lives thousands of miles away. However, if that were the case, it wouldn't be TES game anymore...

I guess thats the point of my (and others') idea. It would not in any way diminish the actual core game, it would be an optional area for those who wished to partake in the chaos would have the option.

I dunno, I don't feel like this would hurt TES in any way, it would simply be an added option that would appeal to a large number of the player base who WOULD like to do so.

Can I use my mod to Conjure Mehrunes Dagon and ruin the experience for everyone?

When everything has to be rebalanced because certain playstyles would have to be viable in the Arena, it would have a very large impact on the game. Seriously, are there just not enough multiplayer PvP games available?

This isn't a new idea, in fact there were many modders who attempted to do such things with Morrowind and Oblivion. Problem is, it's a lot hard to do then you think. Every single Multiplayer mod I have seen rise from the forums has always failed in the end. I know many people want a multiplayer mod but just enjoy the game for what it is. The chances of seeing Bethesda add multiplayer is slim and the chances of seeing some modders make a mod that does it is even slimmer.

Not every game has to be multipayer! TES is just fine as a nice old school(ish) single player RPG!!! For me that is the total appeal of the game!

Multiplayer sounds like a terrible idea, it would ruin the game series which is based around story and character development. The arena thing is entertaining but I feel that it stems from Oblivion expanding its fan base on the xbox360 which meant bringing in the multiplayer addicts from Halo and CoD. If a fantasy multiplayer is that important maybe a company could make it besides Bethesa, or you could play WoW. I would rather TES stay single player personally.

It should have given people the idea that any discussion about multiplayer needs to go in the multiplayer thread. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1239188-official-tes-multiplayerco-op-thread/

It didn't fall on deaf ears. Just a majority didn't agree with you. There's a difference.

I don't want one - but as has been stated most (not all) of the Oblivion/Skyrim new comers are... different than veteran games who can appreciate a standalone single player game..

Beth has been firm that they will never make a multiplayer TES game, but I bet once they see the $$$ it'll bring in they'll change their tune pretty quick. :sadvaultboy:
