Unbiased Poll About the PS3 'Issues'

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 2:03 pm

So there has been a lot of talk about the PS3 getting quite laggy once you pass the 8mb point in your save file. It is hard to get an actual idea of how many people are experiencing issues because many people aren't reporting their file size when they say their copy 'works fine'.

Also, as I brought up in another thread, people with problems are always more vocal than people whose copies' are working fine. So I am hoping this thread doesn't quickly get lost in the ether of these expanding boards, but I would love to get some unbiased data from the PS3 users.

So all I am asking is-

1) What is your file size?
2) Are you having any buggy experiences? (besides the giants and horses and such)
3) If so, what issues are you having?
4) How old is your PS3?

I am hoping we can get an idea of how many PS3 users are actually experiencing gamebreaking glitches besides the (rightfully) vocal few.

For me:

1) ~8mb
2) kinda sorta
3) occasional FPS drops, but nothing bad.
4) Bought in April-ish of 2011

Thanks guys.

1. About 9.5 megabytes
2. Yes
3. I can't unlock the second word of Fire Breath after supposedly learning it from a word wall (the greyed-out word doesn't even show up in my menu), and Windhelm is getting absolutely pathetic FPS for me. Pathetic enough to make me think "Why did they release the game in this state? It's not finished".

Other than those two problems I'm having a bunch of fun, but I'm scared to see what will happen as my save file gets bigger.

Thanks for the input, I am hoping the patch addresses these issues.

1. 7.8mb.
2. Only after an 8+ hour session, then I restart the PS3 and all is fine again.
3. Frame rate issues and NPCs taking a while to respond to me.
4. Been playing on a PS3 Slim which is ~1 year old. Haven't played it on my ancient PS3 Fat yet.

LOVING the game so far.

i have several 11mb files. i experience massive frame drops all the time. im regularly running on 1-5 fps. when a dragon comes into the fray my game drops frames like a mofo. quite irritating. it seems to prodomonently occur outside cities, however whiterun can get really bad.

i can fix it for a short period of time if i save and restart my ps3.

My file size is about seven megabytes, currently. I haven't had many problems to speak of, really; there has been occasional stuttering here and there and drops in FPS, though I attributed these occurrences to things such as the environment (as, most times, these problems have happened inside large dungeons with many creatures and items to load). I bought my PS3 (slim) late two-thousand-nine.

it's the orriginal 'fat' 60GB. i upgraded it to a 500GB HDD. its old but it powers on like a champ. im getting a PC soon so im not too bothered about a PS3 slim right now. even with my probs i still love the game, and they havn't stopped me from sinking 65+ hours into it lol. still irritating though, especially when im in combat.

1. Still around 6MB
2. Occasional
3. FPS Drops during magic intense combat, Replying to NPCs takes a couple seconds after the option to reply comes on screen. (Not sure if these are actual issues - FPS drops are pretty normal when running hot or during highly graphical sequences due to the amount of calculations the GPU has to make. - Delay to reply might just be how the game is, haven't asked.)
4. PS3 Slim, around 2yrs old.

I see, thanks for the response.

Well from what we have so far, it seems that everyone is hitting minor lag issues and some are worse.

From the responses, the newer PS3s/Slims (4 responses so far) are mainly minor lag issues, while one response has the old PS3 running it in pretty bad shape, and I read another thread that had an original PS3 and it was running poorly as well.

Is there anyone with a 'new' PS3 that is having game breaking bugs? Or with an old PS3 with >8mb that is running just fine?

Thanks peeps.

I know this thread is for PS3 users but I play on the 360 and don't have these problems. I am starting to think that the PS3's hardware isn't responding as well as the 360's because the game was designed for the 360. But who knows?

How often do you blow the dust out of your system? Not that you're dirty... but the dust can make the system cooling inefficient.

Seems to be different issues on different systems. Worse case scenario, if for some reason it never gets fixed, I'll buy it for 360 as well. I would rather not tho because my 360's HD is pretty full right now...

1. ~5.4 mbs
2. a bit
3. My fps is constantly at a sluggish, estimated 20-25 fps in the fall forest region, I got an indefinite loading time before, game stutters quite a bit, cities, Riften is at a constantly sluggish fps, Whiterun is simply stuttering more and taking a bit longer to load than it used to when I started the game, sometimes I get irritating framerate drops and/or stuttering in dungeons (one case resulted in literal 1 second freezes every 2-3 seconds in a dungeon for a full few minutes... don't know what that was about), my saved data files keep growing at an uncanny rate, etc. It's not unplayable, yet, but I simply cannot enjoy certain areas of the game... such as the entire fall forest, which is a shame given how beautiful it is and the whole game is running with more stuttering and slowdowns than it ever did at the beginning. It used to run so smoothly and now it's simply continually getting worse.
4. October of 2010, PS3 slim - 160 gb version.
