Random Quests - slightly amazed how well they work

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 4:17 pm

So I understood that the people giving out "random" quests, but I was amazed when both the Whiterun attendant and the Companions gave me the same quest (the text was actually different) to clear out one of the camps North of the city. In fact, I was was worried it was a bug, so I saved the game, backed up to a previous save, saved that up in a slot, and then sought off to defeat the leader of the camp, practically expecting a bug when the quest(s) were done.

To my surprise, it went swimmingly. Killed the bandit leader, went to both factions and got my rewards.

It seems a lot of these quests are to "kill the bandit leader", so I suppose I should have expected testers to run into this, but it was nice to see it work. My only concern now is that all the quests of this nature (random) are to "kill the local bandit leader" - I do hope they might vary a bit from time to time -

Each person will just keep giving you the same quest over and over. Aela, for example, will keep sending you to kill bears/wolves/aardvarks/chinchillas/slightly large gerbils/etc., that somehow all find their way into different peoples homes. Locked inside. Waiting for you to kill them. Over and over. Time after time.

The "neverending quests" was a marketing gimmick, nothing more. Sure, they're are technically " continuous randomly generated quests" so nobody can outright accuse Bethesda of lying, but the only "random" bit is the name of the person's house who you have to go kill the next animal at.

There can only be so many things that happen, what exactly do you want?

Too bad it's pretty much the same thing each time.

The enchanter at the College gave me a quest and I could not find him when I returned. There was no marker. I went all over college, but obviously not the place that he was at. He was probably getting drunk at the inn.
