During the Main Quest, while infiltrating the Mythic Dawn shrine, you are presented with an option to kill an innocent Argonian named Jeelius. If you do kill him, will the Dark Brotherhood try to recruit you afterwards?

I just figured since he's innocent and all.

Ive sliced him up with that complementary dagger maybe twice, both times the Dark Brotherhood recruited me for it. So it might just be the times I played it. And usually at that point in the MQ im done with the DB already.

Doubt it, as he's part of the quest. The game will only sic the Dark Brotherhood on you if you willfully went out to kill someone. With Jeelius, the game treats it as you keeping up the facade of being a Mythic Dawn initiate before you nab the Xarxes.

If you do the Grey Prince's quest, he does not try to kill you. Therefore it counts as murder. So using this as a reference, I believe that killing Jeelus will count as murder and make you eligible for induction to the Dark Brotherhood.
