Fallen at the first hurdle : IV

Hi everyone.
I quite new to computer gaming and very new to RPG games. (This is my first). I've got out of my cell, killed the rats, searched the assassins and the blade captain (so now have a weapon). I'm now up against a locked door. I searched but I can't find the key! Could someone please point me in the right direction.

If this is the very first area, where the Emperor and the surviving guards went through the door, then you can't follow them. You should go through the fallen wall that the rats came out of.
