Advice on quest lines ?

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 4:15 pm

Hi Folks

New player looking for some advice and suggestions about when and in what order to do the various quest lines.

For instance: at what level should I begin the main quest?
Should I play it straight through? Or break off and do other stuff in between quests.
I read somewhere if one is too high a level the enemies (but not your allies) will also be high and will decimate your allies.

Rather than doing multiple play-throughs, I wonder is there a recommended general pathway or order in which to do the various quest lines?

Maybe there are already good threads on this topic you could point me too.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

Hello. Most ppl do the first part of the main quest early on, as going at later levels could seriously mess up your day. That said, most of my characters, if they do the main quest at all, go around level 30. I'm fully prepared don't worry. Each to his/her own I say. I recommend multiple playthroughs. You will surprised at the seemingly infinite types of characters you can create. However, I have certainly done it all with just one character. Good luck!

I personally liked to get the bulk of the main quest out the way early on due to the fact i hate having allies dying on me. I have some sort of god complex where i need to save everyone  Therefore i like to get past the main quest: Battle for Burma (quite late in the quest) to maximise higher level enimies like spider daedra, storm atronachs and xivilai not turning up and kicking the ass out the guards and my companions

In saying that-if you don't mind collateral damage then there is no need to do it in any order. Why not try various ways? That's the beauty of these games-do what you feel like doing.

With many characters I never do the main quest. I just ignore the Amulet. Unfortunately there is not good way to opt out of the main quest from a role play perspective. So you might as will just ignore the amulet when you leave the sewers if you don't do the Main Quest until later or never.

I tend to really focus on the Collector questline. Basically find a statue (hint Vilverin or Culotte) sell it in the Imperial City (or any city) then wait.

While doing the Collector questline...

With a good character I'd do some combination of the Fighters Guild and/or Mages Guild quests.

With a thief, of course the Thieves' Guild, and with an evil character the Dark Brotherhood.

I would not continue with the Main Quest until my character has a lot of experience, and maybe finished at least one guild questline.

Disclaimer: I don’t recommend asking one character to go through all the questlines and split their loyalties among a pile of guilds and factions. That said however, you have asked for what I presume to be a non-roleplay logical order for a player who wants to do it all with one character.

- Main Quest, but only to saving Kvatch. Then let it rest. This is your best chance to keep those Kvatch soldiers alive.

- Mage guild so you can make your own spells and enchantments.

- Arena and Fighters Guild to build up your fame.

- Thieves Guild. With your fame built up, you can handle the infamy hit.

- Dark Brotherhood. With your Thieves cowl, you can prevent any additional infamy from this questline.

At this point, with your character pretty well built up, take the Shivering Isles, Main Quest and Knights of the Nine (if you have that DLC). These three big questlines sort of set you up as all awesomesauce and make a good place to retire since everything can seem rather mundane after these big three.
