Conjuration is amazing

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 5:50 pm

So I was getting tired of my pure warrior and wanted to roll a mage so I started a new game and chose a Breton because I wanted to summon bada$$ creatures. As soon as I got to whiterun I sold all of the gear I got from the imperial bastardos at Helgen. I had about 400 gold so I bought an atronach spell tome (which I couldn't use yet) and headed to the nearest bandit form. Not wearing any armor I was much more agile than my opponents and VERY slowly but surely eventually got my familiar to kill them all. So I sold all the gear from the bandits outside the fort. (I wouldn't dare to actually go inside) and bought bound sword spell tome. With the Bretons naturally high Conjuration and my battle with the bandits I was golden with the Bound sword. I went to Bleak Falls Barrow and 3 hitted everything in there. My familar taking out every third enemy or so. The boss at the end wasn't much more of a challenge. I dual wielded bound swords and killed him before he even got 3 hits on me. I had gained 4 levels in this cavern alone. Amazed at the power of the bound weapon, I left to collect my reward for the dragonstone. I could now actually use the atronach summon and used my next perk to half the magicka cost of apprentice spells. I went inside the actual bandit fort and absoluetly R@PED. My atronach was lighting the entire fort on fire doing about half damage with each fire ball. The next perk I put into making bound weapons more powerful. I am now level 6 and am convinced I can take on Alduin. I haven't even touched anything but one handed (bound swords) and conjuration. Where should I go from here? Illusion, alteration, restoration? Is my character too OP?

I am playing on default difficulty. Adept I think. Oh yah and my Conjuration is already at 40. Lol

conjuration does rock
combined it with alteration, destruction with a bit of restoration on the side (for healing purposes)
did find a lot of weapons more powerful than my bound sword because of some awesome enchantments so that's kind of been neglected as of late
but still need conjuration for my all important atronarch/zombie companions

Bound weapons are pretty awesome for not having enchantments. They could be better though.

Should I stick with bound weapons the whole game or start using one handed actual weapons? I am not pure mage so it wouldn't bother me much.

Well, they're the best they can be without being able to smith or enchant them. I think higher level bound weapon should have enchantments, though, shame they only include three spells in the game.

Bound Weapon damage is over the top and i can hardly imagine that other Weapons gonna be superior, even with enchantments (if i'm wrong you are welcome to enlighten me :-))

I have conjuration skill of 90 (so i have the improved summoned weapons and a dremora lord as my summoned creature).

The combination of spell-archer and a summoned creature to tank the enemies works perfectly fine, especially with the dremora lord, because he charges in for close combat and the enemies immediately attack him.

Also i want to post some stats for those that are interested. If i open my inventory while bound bow is active, i can see the following:

The summoned arrows do 24 damage and the bow itself does 46 Damage for a total of 70. I have 3/5 in damage improvement in the archery skills. The bound bow does twice as much damage as a Falmerbow for example.

So i strongly recommend spellarcher with a pet. Greets :)

The only beef I have is hit detection with necromancer spells. You have to aim below the thing your trying to resurrect, which can be tricky in heated battle, or if they are positioned weird. Pretty much why I auto save before every encounter, since I can easily cast three necro spells that miss.

Indeed, conjuration is quite fine :P

But if you haven't already then you should try it in Morrowind and Oblivion :D It's even better in those with more diversity, you can have everything you can have in Skyrim aside from the familiar in both games + a lot of other creatures such as Scamps, Clannfears, Daedroths, Hungers (in Oblivion you only get them after getting the Shivering Isles expansion though), Skeletons, Ghosts, Liches, Zombies/Bonewalkers, Spider Daedra (Oblivion only), Xivilai (Oblivion only), Winged Twilights (Morrowind only), Golden Saints (Morrowind only) and more miscellaneous creatures but we normally don't count them among the kind of creatures Conjuration can offer.

The focus in Skyrim seems to be more on making individual summons work right but really even with that if you think it's good in Skyrim then Morrowind & Oblivion can only make you like Conjuration even more.

Other than the list of summons you could have. Ob conjuration svcked. Not only did conjured creatures suffer from not scaling, but there was no vanilla necromancy like there is in Sky. Just Raise Flesh spell and Staff of Worms. Both of which are pretty lackluster. Couldn't even have permas. Morrowinds was better, but other than variety in summons, Sky has them beat.

conjuration is freaking broken is what it is... at level 10 my warrior was getting his ass kicked by a snow bear until i decided to cast that conjure familiar spell i picked up...it held its attention long enough for me to hack it to death without fear of being attacked.

having invested exactly zero perks into conjuration, that little familiar is still my cheat move well into level 33. there is also the fact that every time someone mentions destruction being underpowered, a dozen people annoyingly tell them to use conjuration.

by the way OP, not to spoil anything, but im pretty sure you could take on alduin just as you are...
