How did u come up with a name?

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 5:02 pm

My bosmers name is Paltier Fir'Cail. He is a stealthy archer who uses a mace for melee and conjuration as a backup. Altier is the elvish version of my first name (patrick) and I just added a "P". Fir'Cail means dark archer. How did you come up with your characters name and does it have any meaning?

Tamriel Rebuilt's name generator. Or I used one from the previous games. I like to stick to lore.

Aemyn Eawulf was a Nord character I played a few times in Morrowind. I "borrowed" the name for my character in Skyrim.

Jarenn was the first name that popped into my head, and Redoran is his house and background in Morrowind Solstheim. Seeing as how he isn't living with his relatives anymore he wants to assert himself in Skyrim with a last name that reflects his heritage.

I picked Torvald Wolf-Blood for my nord, because I liked the name in Henrick Ibsen's "The Dolls House." And Wolf-Blood because I like wolfs.

My favorite character I ever played in Morrowind is a Dunmer sorcerer of Great House Telvanni whom I named Dralor Ysguar (is-gar). That character eventually fulfilled the Nerevarine prophecy, and so I named my current Skyrim character, who is also a Dunmer sorcerer, after him (as though his parents named him in honor of the Telvanni Nerevarine).

Sandra Renault, Bretons tend to have French sounding names, so that fits the lore just fine !

For most characters I use a real-world name form their cultural counterpart; i.e. Traianus for an Imperial or Bjorn for a Nord. But when I made a Khajiit I named him Muad'Dib because my name is a killing word.

My character's name is Hoth Seraden.
Yes, from Star Wars. I was thinking of names that I'd heard of already used in Skyrim and then I thought of a few letters I could start the name with. Hs, Ts, Ks, and Xs came to mind. Hoth stuck because it sounded nice, fit the sound of other names (in general) and is also a bit of an homage to my favorite sci-fi series. The last name I just sort of made out of thin air. Didn't put much thought into that. Still tried to keep with the overall "sound" of the names in Skyrim.

My name actually came from an old one I used for when I used to RP and it is a simple one. The character was a large brutish character who was kicked in the head by a horse and by all means should have died but only suffered a shattered jaw that never healed right. So as he grew up he had a very slurry way of speaking like his words were made of mud. Hence he earned the nickname Mudjaw. Out of character, the name is also a small homage to one of my favorite comedians (Richard Pryor) who had a reoccurring character named Mudbone. And given the massive underbite the orcs have it was just a perfect name for one in my opinion.

Bretons have french sounding names so I took Lucie. I wanted to play a thief who worshipped nocturnal, and Phex is the god of thieves in drakensang. and phex sounds cool and a little like fox.....

not rocket science i guess.

I named my Orc paladin Rodric the Smith. Because he was raised in cyrodil and given an imperial name but his last name was just a clan name, and his family had left the clan. his mother was smith and he learned to be a smith.

OHhhhh good topic!!!! I always get really into my names in every rpg I play, so I put a lot of thought into mine. I aways do a bunch of research too, to discover meanings of names and their origin. In skyrim, my huge ripped, Nord Axe Warrior's name is 'Gunnarr'. I picked that name in particular because in the ancient norse (the original viking people, from scandanavia if your not farmiliar), it means War Warrior, Warrior, or Battle warrior translated.

For T'vash, I wanted something that sounded exotic and somewhat interesting to say. At the time, I wasn't too aware of existing prefixes for Khajiit, but I went along with wanting to make him -mine-. Unique. A name that he gifted himself, T'vash has and always will be my go-to character!

For Ulfgar Ironbrad, I just took something that looked vaguely similar to norse mythology/common names. (Uulf-Gar) It sounds like a strong name, when spoken aloud it's a little gutteral.
Ironbrand. I just pieced too things together. A family who have boasted great blacksmiths, and each of their kin carries upon them the brand of their clan. Iron-Brand.
