Problems with the Official SI Patch (v1.2.0416)

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 8:15 pm

I've been searching google and forums frantically for an answer,
but it seems like nobody has had the same problem- apparently.

Here's what happens...

I install Oblivion in this order(like the patch suggests):

Oblivion
Official Mods
Knights of the Nine
Shivering Isles
SI Patch Only

However- when I try to use the SI Patch,
I get this message, almost instantaneously:

"Update Aborted"

I've tried with the US version, I've tried with the UK & US -version(can't find a pure UK version),
but the same thing happens.

And before you ask..
no- I do not have the GOTY version of the game.
I'm from europe, so I figure it must be the UK version.

Anybody had this problem earlier? Any ideas?

When you say you're from Europe, which country?? If it's not the UK and you've got a foreign language copy then there's your problem.

According to the Official Patch website: http://www.gamesas.com/eng/patches.php
There is an English patch (all English localizations; US, UK, Australia, Canada, etc...)

If you have a D2D version you need to get the patch from their website: http://www.direct2drive.com/patches/
This patch is located 3/4 the way down, dated: 06/06/2007

@AliTheLord: I'm from Norway,
but we don't have native language support for games made outside of the country.
We always import PAL versions from the UK, so that can't be the case.

Plus I've managed to patch it on my old computer
(which makes me wonder if it's because I have windows 7 that this is happening).

@Níeh?ggr: The english patch you speak of is the one I meant, when I said "UK & US version".
Also, no- I do not have the D2D version of the game,
I have a hard copy bought in the store, where I also bought SI and KotN.

Thanks for the quick replies, though.
If I'm lucky I'll have this sorted out by saturday.

If you have the game installed to the default location, then yes, Windows 7 IS your problem. Uninstall the game, and then reinstall it OUTSIDE of any program files directory.

Did not install it in the program files directory, I never do.

Installed it on a separate partition.

I'm curious... What version of Oblivion does your game say is loaded when you are in-game?

That's SI with no patch. You are sure that you are attempting to install the SI v1.2 (ShiveringIsles_v1.2.0416English.exe) and not the Oblivion v1.2 patch (Oblivion_v1.2.0416UK.exe or Oblivion_v1.2.0416English.exe)?

If you still cannot get the SI patch v1.2: ShiveringIsles_v1.2.0416English.exe to work then I would uninstall the game and attempt to reinstall.

Yes we do have native language support, because we use the same http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_8859-1#Languages_with_complete_coverage in Scandinavia. You can use any relevant http://www.gamesas.com/eng/patches.php. :)

Btw What version are you using? Is it Oblivion GOTY or is it Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition?

If you have the 5th Edition you don't need any patch, because Oblivion is already patch up with the first disc and not the second one like it was for Oblivion GOTY.

@Leonardo2: Sorry I misunderstood your question,
I have the normal version, no GOTY, no anniversary edition- just the regular one.

@Níeh?ggr: Yes I am 100% sure that I am trying to run the SI patch, and not the vanilla Oblivion patch.

Try installing oblivion, then SI, and then do the patch. See if that doesn't improve it's attitude.

That's what I've been doing.

EDIT. Oh you mean without KotN ?

Not sure if that will do anything, but I'll give it a shot.

Did not work- the same thing happens.

I also tried installing it with a clean boot,
but that didn't seem to have any effect, whatsoever.

I'm starting to think that the problem might lie with the patch,
instead of oblivion itself.
It doesn't seem to be exerting any significant effort, at all.

Was hoping to play around in Oblivion a little before Skyrim comes out..oh well.

Still open to suggestions though.

Sorry for the long wait,
I have been terribly busy with school.

@HeyYou: I will give it a shot, and post here shortly.

EDIT: And just like that it worked...I have no idea what the problem was,
but I have downloaded the patch several times.

Hmm.. I think it may have had something to do with my windows 7 installation,
as I just got it validated.

Anyways..

thanks for all the suggestions- I really do appreciate it =)
