Possible solution to seemingly unfixable random crashing som

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:35 am

I was one of the people that had unexplainable random crashing in Fallout 3, which I was also getting in FNV but I think I've finally found the culprit.

Anti-Aliasing! to be more precise - the games own anti-aliasing was causing the random crashing usually after 15 minutes or so for me, if I turn the games AA and AF off through the launcher and force my own with the Catalyst Control Center, the game seems to be completely stable, I've been playing for about 27 hours total (according to steam statistics) since I tried it and haven't had a single crash.

Now something else worth noting is that even when forcing the AA you have to be careful what you pick, I use 4x Adaptive MSAA with 8x Anisotropic Filtering and I don't have crashing any more, however I tried 12x edge detect AA and started getting crashing again until I reverted it back to 4x AMSAA - so my advice is to try different modes and see what works best for you.

This was done with a HD5850.

Well, for some reason I can't force AA through Nvidia Control Panel. Tried everything.

Setting all settings to lowest possible, including no AA, is the first step anyone should take. I have done so, does not fix crashes.

hi guys and girls! i have tried your tweaks and i have to say that it works. I don't experience crashs but only "normal" stutters from a zone to an other. I forced the AA with catalyst (i have hd 5770) , set it up to 4. Then i chose the MSAA, and i added 16x AF with the 15 AF of the game's launcher. So, forcing AA with your driver is more efficient than forcing it with the game launcher. Thanx for the tips and good luck for those who experience issues. By the way, i have Q6600, seven 64, 4GB Ram, all my drivers up to date, and realtek on board sound and the game has always worked like a charm apart from the flickering in the distance on lighted buildings.
