(minor spoilers) "I Fought the Law"

I am extremely confused about this quest and I am hoping someone could help me.

I just started playing the game and decided the first thing I wanted to do was help the powder gangers as I am playing an 'evil' character. In the last quest you talk to Eddie and warn him that the NCR is coming to attack and he then informs you that they are already there. He tells you he would understand if you ran but kill a few NCR on the way out. You also get a quest reward in the form of XP and caps at this time. I decided to stick around and defend the prison. After a few painstaking restarts I finally successfully save Eddie and his crew after killing a dozen NCR. I go back to Eddie and his response is "Im still alive? Must have something to do with you, Thanks!" .....

What? That's it? I am now vilified by the NCR and only "Liked" by you and your gang all for a few caps and XP?

This hardly seems worth it to me. No follow up quests or new path to continue my evil character? I am now thrown back out into the wasteland and vilified by the ruling faction forced to continue the main quests.

I read in the bradygames guide that I should have received a location marker and holotape to find Cooke ( the legendary man responsible for overtaking the prison ). But Eddie doesnt offer it. And shouldnt I be "Allied" or something along those lines with the powder gangers? Those two things would make it worth it to me.

I honestly don't want to even play now because after doing all that the game just feels unatural and not very fun.

In the first game your first evil choice was to blow up megaton. The reward for that was not just xp and caps but a home in tenpenny tower, a huge amount of bad karma which resulted in a new title, three dog talking about your evil actions on the radio and just the feeling that your character was growing into a real evil menace.

So is this a glitch or what?

Powder Gang is small potatoes. No one likes them, not the Fiends, not the Khans, not even Caesar. There isn't any overarching network of Evil in the wasteland, everyone is always out for themselves.

No glitch, just a poor choice of where your alliances lie on your part. Should've betrayed them like a good twisted evil madmen, and went on to bigger and badder evils. Or I guess you can roleplay blowing everyone up with dynamite for the rest of the game?

I did this on my first run, too, and found that the quest kind of ambushes and pidgeon-holes you EXTREMELY early in the game into a position that makes it very difficult to do anything, since it wasn't really obvious that you were going to get pwnt by 12 extremely well-armed NCR soldiers when you're not even past level 2.

I ended up remaking my character anyway, but I agree with the OP, there should have been something "more" here. Even if it was to use the powder gangers as a foot-in-the-door storyline to bigger, badder things.

I'd love to play a "bad guy" character, but honestly, there has to be more to it than "I'll just blow my way through everyone everywhere." While there are PLENTY of players out there that love to go on these kinds of runs, it makes it kind of impossible to run the sort of suave, smooth-talking, evil mastermind that I'd like. The Legion storyline has SO much potential give the flair that the faction has (being Rome-esque)... sure, you crucify guys and round people up as slaves, but if you're going to emulate the civilization, remember that there was a lot of dramatic undercurrents to their conquests and brutality. When it comes to making a great game that reflects this, you can't just assume that "Evil/Bad == KILL EVERYONE RIGHT NOW OMG I LUV COMBAT." ;)

Thanks for the replies!

So to verify.... Eddie does not give me a holotape/location marker for Cooke? My Prima(not brady I miswrote earlier) guide seems to think so...... Nice to know the guide has errors.

Also, I understand that everyone is kind of evil. But betraying Eddie gives me good karma. So the game doesn't seem to agree that is the choice of a "truly evil madman"

Thanks again
