EA calling Crysis 2 " The Halo Killer"

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:25 pm

Crysis 2 was made on about 2-3 million sales of crysis 1 (games sell for longer on PC, so i wouldn't be surprised it got to 4m now due to steam sales), and uncharted 1 'only' sold a couple of million too (by now, it only sold 1m copies in it's year of release, crysis did better in 2007 when most machines could hardly run it!).

Companies don't need mega sales to make a sequel at all. If crysis 2 sold 5-6m i'm sure crytek would be extraordinarily happy. It won't be as successful as bad company 2 was though (about 8m copies or so), since that has a great pc fanbase supporting it (and even though it was a console spin off series, they supported the pc very well), and the console fanbase generated from bad company 1 and their first taste of teamwork online.

Crytek have annoyed the pc fanbase by seemingly ignoring it and the console fanbase doesn't know anything about crysis to be honest, so i'd say 5m if crytek are lucky :) but even then, that's nothing to turn their nose up at.

Anyways, comparing crysis 2 to over marketed money spinners like halo: reach and black ops isn't fair. both of the other two are over hyped/marketed old franchises, where crysis is still a small scale newbie that's still a good game. If becoming like the two aforementioned games is what you need to get mega sales, it isn't worth it.

This is fairly accurate... but try to lift up your spirits for Crysis 2. It may be new, but that doesn't mean its hopeless. It's potential is still to be known. :)

LOL. I have been thinking that Crytek will be lucky if they even get 3 million sales on launch. xD

Bad Company 2 had much more advertising and an open beta, yet that "only" had 5 or so million copies on launch (much more now long-term)... I personally think that 5 million is reserved for those few AAA games out there that can really build up a great hype.

If Crysis2 only sells 3 milllion copies that would be a bad thing. They need more.
Don't forget Crytek was just a small company when they developped Crysis 1 and is now a relatively large company with several studios. Ofcourse they are developing more games now, but they still need the cash to develop all these games.

I think EA will start 'hyping' Crysis this month, and I am sure we will be seeing a lot more footage before launch, or perhaps a demo.
