[WIPz] The Load Order Sorting Tool

LOST, the Load Order Sorting Tool, is a simple and straightforward, lightweight load order manager program for Fallout: New Vegas, TES IV and Fallout 3 (you do not need all of them, though), written in the Python programming language. It allows you to change the order in which the game engine loads plugins and masters to prevent conflicts between mods that may cause glitches or crashes. (duh) AND... It's got support for all three games in one package.

This is a project I've been working on as a programming exercise which is currently in closed beta, and I figured now would be a good time to announce it. Right now it doesn't support NV, but making the necessary changes shouldn't prove too difficult. I expect* to release it somewhere next week.

For the moment it's only got the basic stuff (load order managing), but I intend to add more feature later on. (Main reason for keeping it simple was making sure integrating NV wouldn't become too much of a stretch)

Oh, and the name's a working title. If you can think of something better, please, do tell! :P

* I am new to this kind of thing. It may take time. I hope it doesn't. I like short sentences.

Update: I think I have most of the NV support sorted out, just have to make sure no bugs crept in (which is the most work, really). Most of it is based on assumptions that is handles mods and load orders the same way as FO3 - it is the same engine, after all - but I cannot be 100% sure about that until I have the game myself.

The latest alpha version is http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34969 now. Feel free to give it a try, however keep in mind that since I do not have the game yet it's mostly guessing how it's got to work.

*Edit

Its working great but can't save my load order. What exactly is UAC? Says it might be stopping me. And probably is considering I have never heard of it.

UAC means User Account Control, which means you installed it inside the Program Files folder. It is arguably a useless security measure because... guess what? You can circumvent it by installing outside the program files folders. :P

You can still deal with it without reinstalling the whole Steam app by typing "User Account Control" into the start search bar. Turn it all the way down to the lowest setting. Obviously, you'll need admin rights to do so. ;)

Is UAC present in Windows XP? Thats what I'm sporting. Did a seach on the net to see what it was, since I couldn't find anything through 'search' or 'run'. Only mentions it being on Vista and forward. Perhaps something else is stopping me from saving? Maybe the Steam Client?

It is evil after all. :flamethrower:

Revision 0.9.4 http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34969 and revision 0.9.5 is coming soon.

@people above: There were some issues that should now be resolved. Should work now. :)

Will you be adding support for the BOSS/F masterlists, should they come out? It'd save you a lot of time, and add an auto-sort function.

That sounds interesting... I'll look into it, if/when they're released.

Just saw this, looks interesting, an alternative to Wrye Bash/OBMM and equivalents for FO3. Just wanted to chime in and say that if you do decide to offer BOSS integration, please do it so that you don't package BOSS yourself - I believe this is what FOMM does, and it's not good if BOSS gets updated (which it does). I'd rather you looked to see if BOSS was installed, and then enabled the functionality if it was. Saves us all headaches. :)

Thanks. ;)

If I decide to add BOSS support, I'll definitely follow your advice. Anything that saves headaches is a good idea in my book. :P
