There are no "wizard or witches" in Tamriel. This isn't Harry Potter we're talking about. There are only "majestic mages" in Tamriel. They're like Jedi, 'cept with big sticks.

I'm not bashing Harry Potter in that statement. In fact I quit enjoy Harry Potter, I grew up with it.

Yeah, I've played the games just a little, and I have an idea about that. (Do I need to point out that was sarcasm right there?)

I did not actually say there were wizards or witches in Tamriel or in the whole TES universe. I said that from other peoples' perspectives, they're likely to see it as a typical orcs/wizards/elves thing. Do you think non-fans will be aware of, or even care about, the intricacies of Nirn magicka and the like? No. That's why I said, that's how I expect others would see TES.

It's not so much what's so great about Skyrim, because the game isn't out yet. It's that Bethesda is releasing another "High Fantasy RPG." It's that Marrowind and Oblivion are not only some of the best RPGs ever made, they are some of the better games ever made. Given the track record, this should be the next stage in the franchise's evolution.

TES are the only games worth playing today.

I would rather play daggerfall than any tedious COD game.

So many svcky games are coming out now its sad.

assassins creed series is let down by its immersion breaking dna fractals everywhere you turn, annoying 2d characters and irksome hand holding.

once in AC2 I had to travel to another town to meet da vinci, as soon as I left the town I was in I was teleported to outside his house. Did Ubi even consider I WANTED to ride across the countryside, without a quest marker and find him myself?

Games are being made with retards in mind.

I have faith skyrim will come and tell all the wannabes how to truly make an immersive masterpiece.

Considering I can still make a new character in oblivion and feel the same sense of immersion and wonder even after 1000 hours says they know what theyre doing.

No Witches? Explain the naked Nords.

I see a lot of Tolkien being tossed around, but I'd like to bring in C.S. Lewis.

I was a huge fan of the Chronicles of Narnia before I owned a PC, but when I finally did one of the first games on is was Daggerfall. It was like my own portal into Narnia.

Skyrim represents to me the continuation of that thing with inspired me to find and pursue my dream. The writing in Morrowind was so good, and spoke to me in such a way, that I was siezed by the compulsion to start doing well in school in order to go to college and learn how to do creative writing myself and become a real writer.

What is so great about Skyrim? It is after a good four years of waiting, the only FPS Fantasy RPG out there that is good enough for us HC fans.

I can't answer that question until I know more about the game but from what Bethesda did with Oblivion and Fallout 3 it should be pretty damn good.

Imagine coming home from work and simply wanting a break, a break from the work, a break from the stress, a break from the stupidity of the world etc. Now most games give you that feeling, but what does TES and only TES give you? It gives you the chance to be a part of an international community of like-minded intellectuals (mostly) and gives you the chance to be anything and anyone you want to be in their games. You could be the valiant hero that saves the day and never accepts payment, the most noble of the noble; or you could live out your most sinister desires and take out all your anger on a virtual world.

You choose where, when, who, what, why and how you do something as you play. You are both story-teller and story character, and thats without mods

With mods, you literally get an infinite game, a game that can be modified as you please and that will teach you a bit of patience and perseverance at the same time, to summarize how much mods bring to the game is difficult, but if you've tried it, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

To say TES is spectacular, amazing, limit-shattering, these are all understatements, you can't fully describe the epic that is TES, you just know what it is.

It's hard to explain without any background on said girlfriend.

I guess I'd say "TES V is as much about defining your own goals and fulfilling them as it is about the included quests you can do. Want to collect a full set of some hilarious in-game fiction? The game gives you the freedom, space, and resources to try to accomplish that. Maybe you just want to explore. The game is built for that. Maybe you just like to wander around and bludgeon the local wildlife into a permanently unmoving condition. We do that. Or, you can race through the game and finish the main quest. If you want. Be a thief, mage, warrior, or some exotic hybrid, if you want. Spend your game trying to earn 10 million gold, or try to finish the game by only carrying a maximum of 3 weapons, one extra armor piece, and a finite number of potions. Most people will do elements of most of this... seemlessly."

Even if I'm going to do as much as I can in a single playthrough, it doesn't prevent me from trying to put every book in the game (1 copy) in a particular chest in a particular house as a personal goal. And I have experienced a lot of areas in Oblivion that I wouldn't without the All Book Challenge.

It's The Elder Scrolls... 'nuff said.

Seriously though, Bethesda has always made good games, and they're one of the leading companies on RPG's - Bethesda games are very unique in style and design so it's very easy to get excited about another one in the series.

Imagine all those times you asked yourself "why can't I do this in a game?"

The TES series is a series that lets you do those things.

TES is my morning sun
the reliever of my pain
in which I may freely run
and never in vain

it fills me with joy
and how I do love
with no hidden ploy
being free as a dove

I can pick some flowers here if I wish
or explore that dungeon
maybe I'll hunt some slaughterfish
or go to the Feed Bag for a luncheon

for many a year
can I enjoy this tranquility
and shed a tear
at all its detailed beauty

in artistic purity
I relax for a day
perhaps I exhibit curiousity
in the manner by which plants sway

whatever I wish to be
I can fulfill
and to this I enjoy some glee
in that I can and will

whether decorating my home
or reading a book
or seeing the city so much like Rome
the series has me on a hook

while being called criminal scum
I do not mind
for I am not glum
for the humor I find

in Suran
I seek a siltstrider
and so I ran
seeking its rider

for a fee I go away
off to another city
a city that fails to betray
or give off a depressing feeling of pity

but lo, my journey does not end here
for I see Skyrim far and distant
and as if it were mere
the journey went by in an instant

and here, reader, do I find
the next chapter of my life
for which the wait I do not mind
and with grief my mind is no longer rife

The Elder Scrolls five
I believe is it's name
and oh do I feel so alive
when I approach a potential favorite game

Haha, nice. So I obviously had to answer you on this one, but...okay what would I tell her...or what am I going to tell her lol... hmm, so first and foremost...when I first read up on Oblivion all those years back I was amazed at what they were telling me that you could do in this game. I watched videos on it and read reviews and previews and heck...even the dang guide for the game. There was actually a game in which you could have that whole...go anywhere, do anything feel without having to play something like Grand Theft Auto. Didn't realize a fantasy version of that existed at the time and actually I found it to be a lot better than expected. At that time though, I didn't have a computer that could run Oblivion so I had to settle for Morrowind and even with that game I was amazed.

The graphics in the Elder Scrolls, well it would seem Bethesda always try to make their games really pretty and attractive looking and that I liked about it. Just exploring around in the game. And the immersion itself with the rich lore and allowing your character to be almost any character you could think of. Of course, like any game there has been pet peeves in the game but overall the Elder Scrolls (mainly talking of experiences from Morrowind and Oblivion) have been really good quality games. And really if the original game wasn't enough then you had a whole array of mods to choose from to enhance your gameplay experience making the game's replayability endless and the choices close to limitless. So...basically that's one game that is more than worth the money with the number of hours you could get from it.

To put it simply, TES is amazing. It's definitely among my favorites and I expect I'll be adding Skyrim to that once it comes out next November.

Is melee worth a damn? only because the game does not allow the npcs to use magic like it does the players. Can they paralyze me indefinitely? no, can they apply 6 poisons in a second? no, can they pop 5 heal over time potions that outdoes a single oponent's damage? no, can they apply a virtually limitless stack of fortify spells/potions so you can run 1000mph, jump a mile while spinning circles and firing instant cast spells while I am standing there waiting for a power attack to go off. The game has no balance, which I understand people love "games" they can feel like they can not lose. Just sayin'.

To be fair.... as far as I know, nothing is great about it. Why do I say that? Because I know absolutely nothing about the game, and its irrational to say how great a game is going to be that I know nothing what so ever about.

Sure, the game is probably going to be great... even amazing perhaps. However blindly praising a game that you know nothing about is dangerous. Not only does it likely build up extreamly high expectations for yourself, but it can also lead to you buying crappy games based solely on their name. No matter what a games name is, you should always investigate how likely it is to be a good game... because a name like The Elder Scrolls does not make a game great. Its content does, and right now no one other then Bethesda knows what that content is.
