LR harder than OWB?

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 1:08 pm

is LR harder than OWB as far as the "this area is clear, just checked every inch of it ow crap where did all u come from? that janitor room was just empty!" spawning? Reason is im doing one grand l"last" playthru til Skyrim coems out, and i play on PC so of course i mod. I mod to make the game harder not easier but not the "im gonna take on the world with this broken spork and nothing else!" gimping myself hard, hard as i try to lvl the playground between me and the npcs.
Well anyways, playing a "cowboy" makeup and whew! OWB is kicking my butt, thank god im not doing a D.I.D. toon or else id be pissed. Playign on Very Hard, logains loophole, etc and im doing good, its just those damn spawns just spawning outta nowhere 2 feet in front of me. The set npcs, no prob i still die here and there but usually come up with a battleplan and wha lah, but the spawns? Spawns are hanging me out to dry. I know i could run away but dammit, im the type of person who goes down fighting, so retreat is not an option. I mean i have tried to get to a spot thats advantages to me, but when they spawn they are like 3 feet in front/behind me and on my hindend like a fatboy chasing a magical twinkie. So does LR have those random 3 feet away from u spawns outta nowhere?

The only thing I found hard about Lonesome Road was the Deathclaws/Courier's Mile, but if you deal with the Deathclaws from a distance you should be fine. Enemies don't spawn out of nowhere like Old World Blues at least, but they're two spots they do, if I remember correctly, one is when you get the Laser Detonator and the other is a trailer on the High Road. The trailer is very dangerous, if you go inside a Deathclaw will spawn on top of it and be careful even at level 50 these Deathclaws will kill your guy in one or two hits.

LR has only one sponge enemy, the Tunnelers. Otherwise all LR enemies are either slow, weak or can be taken off from a safe distance.

OWB is full of sponges that spawn right at your face.

LR throws you in situations where it's kill or be killed. For instance (the spoiler is a tip rather than a real spoiler):

Spoiler
You've seen the elevator ride in the trailer where you fight the Tunnelers and there's explosions everywhere? What it doesn't show you is that the Tunnelers have a chance of knocking you down, and the explosions often prevent you from opening up your Pip-Boy. Hope you've got your healing items hotkeyed...

LR is harder just because of the tunnelers and deathclaws alone. Those tunnelers are extremely fast, attack in groups, and have a ton of health, that's why mines are really useful against them. The Deathclaws, well if you don't kill a deathclaw in your first shot they will kill you in one swipe making that critical headshot the most necessary.

ok kool, realized with OWB if i wanna complete it im gonna have to start using those EW lol, bc im quickly running out of ammo for my trail gun and hunting shotgun lol. only using my dog gun for backup. Doing well with the scripted mobs or the patrolin mobs im just using @#$%ing a brick whenever i grab soemthign and turn around and there 5 mobs spawning right there on top of me lol. Thanks for the replys, looks like ill have an easier time in LR than here in OWB.

I found that Old World Blues was much better, purely for the fact it had more places to explore. Lonesome Road is a fun experience but this fun is usually runied by the Strength and the sheer difficulty of the Deathclaw and Tunnelers. But Lonesome Road is DEFINATELY the more difficult of the two.

Only thing I had problems with in LR was the queen that killed me in an few hits and the random deathclaws that came outta nowhere. I remember OWB actually requiring me to think before fights so I'd say OWB is still harder, LR just had tougher and more annoying enemies.

I found nightstalkers spawning 3 feet in front of me more annoying, and OWB did that and worse.

The Deathclaws are actually more powerful in LR then anywhere else and Rawr is one of the fastest enemies in the game. Tunnelers aren't too bad as long as you use the right weapon against them.

Dead Money is harder then either of them.

They're both difficult in different ways. Old World Blues tends to throw a lot of enemies at you and not enough bullets and supplies, so you have to kind of conserve your stuff. Lonesome Road never stints on ammo, it's everywhere in bucketfulls, but you get thrown in situations where you can get easily killed if you're not careful or merciless enough. It also adds three optional "super dungeons" that represent the hardest areas in the entire game.

Although, I would say that LR is tougher overall. OWB isn't so bad depending on what build you have (as in, you specialize in melee combat). LR is always gonna' be tough.

I didn't find either of them particularly difficult, but I suppose Old World Blues was a little bit tougher for me. I like to snipe things though, so the Deathclaws weren't ever much of a problem for me.

They were both difficult, just in different ways.

OWB was full of bullet sponges that would spawn right in front of you, and after you killed them it would alert another group of bullet sponges to come and attack you.

LR had some bullet sponges (tunnelers) but it was mostly as longknife said, kill or be killed situations. For example,
Spoiler
the high road was full of deathclaws, and some of them would spawn right in your face. They weren't really bullet sponges though, the difficulty was that they could kill you with a single swipe. This made LR's combat more interesting and gave it more variety than OWB, at least that's how I felt.

Each DLC had it's challanges.

Dead Money introduced The Cloud, Speakers that could kill you, and hard to kill enemies. It took them all back too (Thank god for that...)

Honest hearts doesn't give you much ammo, or really powerful weapons, the enemies are not really powerful, but you still need to plan.

Old World Blues gives you bullet sponges, and the primary ammo sources are Muggy and the Toaster, mostly energy weapons ammo. be ready to use the sonic emmitter a lot.

Lonesome road gives you heavy attackers. Enemies will use powerful weapons against you. even at the lowest level, you have to deal with assult carbines and missle launchers. At the higher levels (above 40) Marked Men use non-standard ammo. This means things like armor piercing bullets and incendiary bullets. Beware of the SMMG enemies, as a SMMG in good condition does 30 DAM per bullet and fires at 7 bullet a second.

ya so far i think its because of the bullet sponges being spawned right ontop of u with not alot of sourse for "gun" ammo and alerting the others makes it really hard to plan out. I think it might be easier adjusting if LR's uber enemies are on a set path or alrdy out there instead of spawnign right on top of ya that would make it easier i the sence that u could plan and know what ur up against instead of the "outta the blue" senario.

Lonesome roads enemies are not really bullet sponges, but they ARE heavy hitters. In OWB the enemies were mostly defensive, in LR they try to kill you as fast as possible.
