Although I don't usually like reading a lot of text in a game, I do make it a point of trying to read cover-to-cover every book I take in Skyrim. Admittedly I think some of the books are a bit long-winded, but a few have been real gems. In some of them you can get hints and clues on how to handle certain quests, races, and situations. Also, a few of them are actually very well written. I think my favorites thus far have been the 'Report on the Ionith Disaster' and the 'Biography of Berenziah' (both also found in ES4). Fans of military history especially will like the Ionith book. In reading it I was reminded of great military disasters like the Teutoburger Wald and Stalingrad. Gosh., I'd love to play a strategy game on the campaign critiqued in that book. Although the books are something of a mixed bag, a few are really good, and overall they do help the player in becoming totally immersed in the big and wondrous world of Elder Scrolls.
Anyway, enough forum browsing. My character Red Lucy awaits in Skyrim!
