Fallout 1 & 2 on Windows 7 64-bit

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 4:04 pm

Okay, these games are $6 apiece for download but I downloaded the Fallout 1 demo and it won't run right. It's all funny-colored and then the screen goes black except for where I move my mouse. (Looks like painting the screen black in MS Paint and my cursor is the eraser.)

Google says to open my 'screen resolution' window and run in compatibility mode so I tried that... Sometimes the funny colors are gone but even then I still get the black screen thing. Will the full retail games have this problem too?

Thanks! :tops:

It's best to use the high resolution patches found http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1273 and http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1325. Then it's just a matter of setting the color for both games to 16 bit rather than 8 bit in Options/SCRN.

Yeah, it's a common bug. Do as Talonfire said.

Hey, guys. Yeah, I just said what the heck last night and went for it.. It's only 6 bucks. (Just bought the first one for now) The demo must have just been extra buggy or something because the full game runs fine without using compatibility mode or changing anything. No colors, no black screen. I did download the hi res patch after playing for a couple hours just to check it out but I only bumped it up a little because the mouse lags with 1600x900.

I have it for Windows 7 and I don't have any problems with Fallout 2 once I use Control, Alt, Delete then just go back to the main menu. Fallout 1 flickers on the screen with the high resolution but its still works fine for me.
