Good Spellsword build/class?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:35 am

Well i recently started playing Oblivion, and im starting to grow a slight addiction towards it :o Anyway i like the idea of a Spellsword. Heavy armour with magic :) But can anyone advise me a really powerful class/build?
Like having heavy armour but with good magic spells that causes alot of damage! Also some sneak spells like invisibility and paralyze (Not a sneak skill but effectful) Any advice??

You can use the premade Spellsword class. It has Blade, Block, and Heavy Armor for your warrior needs and Destruction, Restoration, Illusion, and Alteration for your spellcasting needs. Though if I were to make a custom class I would replace Alteration with Mysticism (so that at least 1 Willpower skill is minor) and make my favored attributes INT & END instead of WIL & END.

I think that's a very good Spellsword build. Besides, you don't really need Alteration to be a major skill. If you get your hands on an shield spell, levelling it up is easy.

As for the race, I'd say either Breton, Dunmer or Nord. The UESP has a great overview of the races and the bonuses they get, so here's a link to it: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Races

I agree with the build. Breton is easiest to play. Altmer is actually a candidate for this kind of build, because of its high magicka and starting Destruction bonus. Either of those will require strength training to handle the encumbrance of Heavy Armor. (You might have noticed that all the Marauder Battlemages in the game are Altmers.)

Any other race choice will probably need one of the magicka-boosting birth signs. You'd probably want that anyway, since most of the other signs are of questionable value.

Hmm, good point about the Strength. Altmers actually get a minus in Strength, although the bigger magicka pool and Destruction bonus makes up for this, I find. They don't get a minus in Endurance though, which Bretons do.

I agree on the birthsign. I always pick either Mage, Lady or Warrior, as they are the only ones that have any long term effect; Mage being a magicka bonus, the other two giving you an Endurance bonus which translates into more health.
