The Ethics of Exploiting

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 8:03 pm

I just had a thought. What if someone wanted to RP a really really rich guy like a duke or something, and as that person comes out of the Imperial sewers they'd inherit like a bajillion gold (hypothetically) and so to make this gold appear, they would either use the console or the duplication glitch. Is it still wrong to obtain the money by cheating even if its for the sake of character background?

I don't see any problem with it. If you want your character to start the game rich to fit the RP, that is a fine way to do it. I use the console to reduce my character's gold all the time by simulating that she pays high property taxes on her humble house - it helps keep her poor which fits our RP.

The way I see it, it's your story. So, tell it how ever you want to.

I'd say there's nothing wrong with that, but I think it would get boring after a while if you could just buy everything you wanted. There's some enchanted boots my character wants but they're 4000 gold and she's never had that much, ever. She's going to hunt some vampires and do some thieving before she'll be able to get them.

I think if you're going to spawn loads of gold for your character, you'll have to set some restrictions for it. For example, would your character really suit that enchanted piece of armour? Does your character really like Skingrad or is that just where the best house is? Otherwise, I think it's acceptable for a duke-type character to not have to go hungry. You could even roleplay that they were in prison for trying to take over being Count or Countess of a region and so they were entrusted with such a valuble artefact as the amulet of kings.

Just a question, is it possilbe to use the duplication glitch on an xbox 360 version of the game, and if so how do you do it? I know you can only get the console on PC.

I say go for it. As long as you have a solid thought with what you do with the console and it′s for your RP purposes, I wouldn′t call it cheating. It really isn′t when you think of it. Sometimes IRL people suddenly get a ton of money out of the blue. Has never happened to me though, nor Lothran

Yes its is. It's done with scrolls. You need at least 2 scrolls, and an EVEN NUMBER. You can do it with 200 if you wanted to. I start out with 2 scrolls of type A and 1 scroll of type B. Copying back and forth until I get 100 of ea. You will copy any thing to the amount of scrolls you use. If you use 50 scrolls, you will make 50 copies of what ever.

First you select the scrolls from your inventory. Like you were going to use it.
Then, while still in the inventory, drop what ever you want to copy.
You will drop the amount equal to the number of scrolls.

Be careful on making high copies of 1 item. As this could cause a crash. If you have 100 scrolls and you want make 100 soul gems from 1 soul gem. It's better to make 10 soul gems first, using only 10 scrolls. then drop all 10 soul gems at once. Using 100 scrolls. You will drop 10 stacks of 10 soul gems.

I'm not sure if it's logical right out of the sewers, but perhaps when the character reaches Chorrol or even the IC there's a messenger that tells of the awarded amount? Whatever works for you, really.

Before anyone can answer your question, first I think you need to translate that part ^. I for one cannot figure out what you are saying or trying to say.

On 360 you can just delete the patches by clearing the hard drive cache.Play the game offline and do the old item dupe trick.Afterwards you can get the patches again and keep playing.

It's a single-player game. You can't really cheat in a single-player game, you can only ruin your own enjoyment. So if you personally have no problem with having that much gold right from the start, there is no reaso to feel abd about it.

The only person whose enjoyment you're affecting is your own, so I don't see anything wrong with it. You can't really cheat in a single player game, anyway, unless it's stuff like time trials, leaderboards etc.
