i need help =P

Post » Thu Sep 24, 2009 12:03 pm

in fallout 1, i'm in the brotherhood now and i'm trying to get my power armor.
stole the metal from the guy downstairs, gave it to the dude with the armor and he said go ahead and repair it.
i use my tools on the armor and i get "that does nothing"

my repair skill is 105. is this a glitch?

I didn't use tools, I just selected "REPAIR" from the Skilldex and used it on the armor...

You got to the glow and back to the Brotherhood before finidng out there was a skilldex?

Nicely done!

For the record, this belongs in the "Fallout Series Discussion" section. :)

It was there, but looks like it was moved away. I've asked for it to be moved back.

i've gone this entire time not even knowing i could do that.

Items you see for various skills, such as First Aid Kits, Tools, Lockpicks, etc. are NOT needed to perform that skill, but if you use them you'll have something like +20% for the skill as you try to use it. Not really worth it except for some extreme doors and whatnot - just use the Skilldex.

You can also hold down the Left Mouse Button when over most things so that the little list of icons pops up - the icon with Vault Boy's face will also open up the Skilldex. Same thing, just clicking on the object/NPC first instead of the other way around.

thanks alot for your help stone.
this is my first PC gaming experience, thanks to fallout 3, and i have a LOT to learn.
i also didn't realize that you could use stims in your inventory until i fought the deathclaws in the boneyard haha.
i kept going into the menu, putting them in my immediate items, exiting, healing, and getting owned all over again.

anyway, again, thanks for all your help.
i'm now storming necropolis at level 10 with my power armor.
not even super mutants can touch me. =)

No problem! :D I think I didn't know about using Stimpaks through the inventory until The Hub or so. Relatively early into the game but still painful for me.

I hated the Brotherhood Initiation quest. One month trek to The Glow only to realize I needed a rope. Great! Just great.

It took me a while to do this too.
I kept buying expensive repair books, but still the guy told me that I have too low Repair.

Then I, out of frustration, tried to repair the armor myself, bam, it was fixed.

I think my Repair was around 70% when I tried to repair it. Not sure exactly, but I remember always being able to repair quest-critical things such as the Necropolis water pump.
