What would various types of warriors wear?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:04 am

Me and my friend are doing strictly RP runs in skyrim and are in a dispute about what a warrior would wear

Specifically the different fighting styles.

Sword and Shield
Two Hand
Dual Wield

Sword and Shield
He thinks a S/S warrior would wear the most protective armor possible because defense his main goal. ie: a full plate suit. He think heavy armor

I think that a full plate suit would just nullify the shield. I think they would use something that allows a bit more freedom since they need to move both arms around a lot. If this was MW I'd say medium armor, but since its not in, probably upper level light armor. The dragonborn set looks pretty good, but usually the upper heavy armors cover you from head to toe.

Two hand
We both kind of agree that they would probably wear the most protective armor possible to make up for the heavy weapon and lack of other means of defense.

Dual Wield
He think that a DW warrior would use medium armor (lower end heavy/upper end light).

While I think that they would use light armor because they're main defense would be their weapons and movement and precision is key to a Dual wielder.

What do you think?

Personally I think a Dual weilder would choose to use the lightest armor possible giving him the greatest freedom as his whole attack method is based on speed.

What about a S/S warrior. This is the main one we're arguing about.

Sword and shield to me has two approaches in my mind.
1. Light armor with a small to medium sized round shield (Like the one the Dovahkiin uses in the trailer), allowing for speed but relying more heavily on the shield for defense.
2.Heavy armor with a large shield (something like a tower shield), high defense but for sacrificed movement speed.

It depends on what you're going for in Perk trees as well :)

There are two takes on each type:
Light Sword+Board: "Myrmidon" - Focuses on mobility, drawing defense on well-timed parries. It eschews the Block Tree's defensive perks for more Shield Bashing.
Heavy Sword+Board: "Bastion" - Armor and Shield combine to become the ultimate defensive warrior. It focuses on Heavy Armor perks that improve defense, eschews the heavy armor Mobility perks and most Shield Bash perks in favor of further damage mitigation.

Light Two-handed weapon: "Berzerker" - They rely on three active defense systems: Parrying, Dodging, and Reach. Since they deal single, punishing blows, they don't have to worry about staying in close quarters like dual-wielders have to, and can control the pace of a battle.
Heavy Two-handed weapon: "Freight Train" - Go for Heavy Armor mobility perks, and clear everything out of the way.

Light Dual-Wielder: "Tempest" - This is what you seem to have in mind.
Heavy Dual-Wielder: "Onslaught" - Similar to the "Freight Train" up above, but is better at dealing with crowds of agile enemies. Sure, you can't parry, but with the right perks it's like you parry every other blow automatically, without even having to stop your assault.

This seams to be the closest of what I want.

I see mobility as something thats important in Skyrim. Your going through foress, mountains, and and who know what else. My character is an adventurer, not really staying in one place to much. And the lighter he is, the less taxing traveling would be.
Mithril, elven, and glass fit this perfectly. They're the right mix of protection and mobility.

This is why I love TES games. They allow you to play the character you want to play. Instead of other RPGs where S/S warriors are mostly limited to being tanks with the heaviest armor possible.

Well a s/s warrior would go for lighter heavy armours as you wouldnt want to ssacrifice movement to mucgh. More heavier armours will fatigue you quicker thus not lasting long in battle. Also remember that your ability to glance blows off armour is important. As an axe will still cleave through it.
