Take the road from Whiterun to Riften. You'll find that region eventually.

It's basically in the south east of the world in the area south, south west and west of riften.

Looks like Riften to me. But I was told seasons would change in the game, apart from the northernmost parts always being snowy, so in truth, I guess it could be anywhere in the south, just before the mountain range that separates Skyrim from Cyrodiil.

The whole area around Ivarstead----the town at the base of the 7000 steps-----was if full fall foliage when I went there....truely beautiful.

Ohhh isn't it north from the thieves guild city ?
(beware there are insane creatures that way)
