Why does everyone think Oblivion's graphics are so "bad". They seem to forget that the game was released 5 years ago....

Not so really amazing.

It's not 2005 any more. Compare a game from 2000 to Oblivion. heck, compare the graphics in Morrowind to Oblivion's

I just can't see where the revelation is

No ones flaming oblivion !

Oblivion was epic and the graphics were amazing for its time , just shows how much effort Bethesda put in to it each TES game :)

Well, Skyrim runs on the same machine that ran Oblivion, the Xbox 360... So while it's obvious that a PC game from 2011 looks better than one from 2005, the progresses made on Xbox 360 are praiseworthy

I didn't say that anyone was flaming anything

I said that it's no surprise that a game made over five years ago doesn't look as graphically impressive as a game that will be released in two weeks

I don't understand the surprise surrounding this comparison; i stated so before

I actually never thought they were good...Oblivion was one of the first "next gen" games I was exposed to and even then saw how lackluster the character models and animations were. The landscape looked awesome as long as you didn't look more than 30 feet in front of you when everything turned into mud. Mods did a lot to help the games landscape and weapons, but ultimately the character models and "mushy" looking metal turned me away. Skyrim however actually looks awesome, doesn't have the highest resolution textures out there, but the style is much, MUCH better than Oblivions for it's time.

i think people are so impressed with the graphics upgrade because it looks that much better even though its on the same system obliv was on

I can understand that, but is it so surprising that there's better ways to do things with the same equipment now, too?
