Dragon Shouts here to stay?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:37 pm

Ok so Dragon shouts seem like a very cool feature but do you think this is something that will be incorporated in future TES games or is it going to be exclusively for Skyrim since dragons may not come back in future TES games. What do you guys think?

PS. I'm pretty sure perks are gonna stick around with the series from here on out because it really helps with customizing your character greatly

I guess it's only going to be in Skyrim, since your character here is Dragonborn, and one of the last of them.

What would be the point if so?

Immortality through the Corprus disease hasn't been one, why should this? That would break the lore so great that it wouldn't even be fun.

They shouldn't, and I doubt they will.

I don't see any reason for them to limit the game the next time around by including everything that was in the prior game.

Next time, give me Horker Honks.

Dragons could very well stay for the series, they are back and its confirmed they stay after the MQ.
Dragonshouts? Doubt it. All of the next heroes would have to be the Dragonborn which would be a bit unoriginal.

That's what makes Skyrim unique as well. If we had them in future titles that would take away what was so hyped in Skyrim.

I wouldn't be surprised if Skyrim is the only game to have them. Dragon born have been around in ES for a while, but this is the first time the player can be one. It would be kind of silly if forevermore every character in every future ES game is a dragon born.

I'm sure I'd like dragons to stay for other TES games, especially if we see a game in Akaviir with the Serpent men, Monkey People, the Tiger men and the Dragons but not dragon shouts, those are for the dragon born and the dragon born only.

I hope they're only specific to Skyrim.

That would mean dragons would have to be included in every game since you need dragon souls to unlock the words. I would be surprised if it continues past ESV but I wouldn't mind dragons in any game.

You don't have to be Dragonborn to use dragonshouts, which is just the Thu'um. Anyone can learn to use the Thu'um, but its not something thats frequently taught. Lore wise, theirs no real reason why they couldn't be included, though I'd rather them not.

I don't think they'll stay, but the combining of words for magic spells could be fleshed out and become the normal magic system in the future. Perhaps even with voice recognition.

I know that's how it is in the lore, but are you sure they didn't retcon it? I thought they said you needed dragon souls to be able to use the powers. Unless of course this could just be brushed off as a gameplay mechanic.

No, you have to be Dragonborn to absorb dragon souls, which allow you to learn them at a quicker rate (as it would take quite a time to learn them otherwise, not to mention your a prophesied hero) but you do not have to be Dragonborn to use the Thu'um. If they did retcon it, then shame on Beth.

I doubt they will be a staple. I'm not sure on the wisdom of coming up with similar character features each game. It could begin to feel a little gimmicky after a while.

You are correct, the grey beards are experts at Thu'um, but it took them a very long time to learn because they weren't dragon borns.

I doubt it. Like others have said, it would take a long time for a non-dragonborn to learn the voice. If they had dragon shouts in the game, Beth would have four choices:

1. Have our character know the voice before the game starts
2. Have our character learn the voice through a series of quests in the game
3. Have our character be dragonborn, and learn the voice just as easily as we did in Skyrim
4. Not include dragon shouts

The first option would be outrageous for any roleplayer, and it would completely destory the whole "blank slate" formula Bethesda has had in each one of their Elder Scrolls games. Be who you want to be is the motto of Bethesda, and forcing a background for the character undermines that.

The second option is just ridiculous and un-realistic, as there is no way Bethesda could write a series of quests where the player studies and learns Thu'um. First off, it would have to span over an enormous time, a long enough length of time that Bethesda couldn't hope to create enough content and story/questline to back it up. Realistically, it would be at least 1000+ hours of extra game time . Second, there's no they could make learning the voice in a fun and engaging way.

The third option is just a cop-out and would be extremely lazy developing and storytelling on their part. Everybody knows they wouldn't do that. The only option is to skip them for the next game.

i doubt it, it seem like skyrim's gimmick. Just like oblivion's was the gates and sigil stones. I wouldn't mind a thu'um greater power or something to pop in tes 6

think about why they added families.
