Spears and javelins

And crossbows too, for that matter. A big part of the enjoyment one gets from a game like this is the amount of ways and means of killing. It's obviously a medieval type of setting judging from the armour and shield types, so why not the most common and numerous weapon in the entire history of the world - the spear? And why not throwing javelins and crossbows? If a half-assed (but 100% awesome) indie game like Mount&Blade, made by a team of 2 people with no budget in their spare time, can implement the abovementioned weapons so well, then why the hell can Bethesda not do it?

Throwing knifes/axes. Crossbows would be good, you could have them weaker than bow but 1h, would be decent

Todd Howard has given a clear a answer, but I'm guessing you won't care and it will only fuel your outrage, and I don't want to get involved.

basically its too much work, and focus testing showed that console gamers enjoyed swords axes and bows the most, so that's all they put in the game.

:vaultboy:

But really, it comes down to streamlining. The more basic the game, the less you have to think about what to do. you just play it without much though. thats what bethesda wants. Helps sell to the non-rpg crowd, which is a good target audience for making more money.

Anyone like the idea of a 1h crossbow? Would be cool IMO, could be under archery still.

I'm not outraged; It's pretty understandable really. All the money comes from console sales and I wouldn't expect very many people who use consoles to be able to enjoy anything if it were as complex and great as Morrowind because they'd actually have to make a decision from time to time, or think about something.

Still, they could have added in some extra, un-used mechanics or whatever that would make adding in throwing weapons and crossbows viable for modders for the PC users who actually enjoy diversity and challenge, so that in the future we could turn this game in to an actual PC game where each weapon has advantages and disadvantages instead of all being the same.

Crossbows don't need any skill to be used , you just need to pull the trigger. They would be better alone , like unarmerd combat.
