Ok, I give up. How do I update my mod on PES without losing

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:26 am

Every single time I try this, it's the same process of "delete old file, duplicate filename error, file gets lost, upload new file, old file still shows up, delete old file again, swear at PES, upload new file, get another error, throw things at monitor, swear some more, browser crashes, delete old file again, upload new file... etc."

You'd think by now I'd have figured it out, but... nope.

Have you tried contacting the Admins at PES or fileplanet? Worked for me :)

Yeah, I finally figured it out...

One, have to use a different filename when I upload an update, which is bloody [censored] obnoxious, because I just have to re-upload it AGAIN to change the filename back.

Two, the file doesn't update immediately in the system. Seems like it takes about ten minutes for the download I get from my page to be the actual updated one.

So, yeah... I'm done being angry for tonight.

No, it doesn't upload immediately. But you don't need a new filename, just a new description: select a new file, add a new description (I only change the version number - this is just what is shown underneath the download link), and push update.

Tried that about ten times... "duplicate file detected" error every time, except for the one time my browser crashed.

Though that might have just been from me banging the keyboard in anger.

That's odd. Is your new file, for some bizarre reason, exactly the same size as your old file or something? I have never seen that error.

If download count means that much to you maybe you could just write it down?

It's... more of a status thing, really.

You see, there are other boards where people are less... shall we say, "intelligent" than the fine members of this forum. Many conversations about any upcoming updates to my mod are often met with "nobody is goin' 2 uze dat" and various grunting noises from uneducated troglodytes attempting desperately to comprehend the technology with which they are using to communicate. It sort of helps to be able to point to my download count and tell them to piss off.

Let APY know about that. It's most likely a bug that he can have tracked down. It definitely should let you update it. Also, APY can restore download counts if you know what it should be.

I think using a different name for the new archive would solve your problems. Personally I just append a different version number (without . for safety) , for instance
old uploaded version: abotWaterLife117.7z
comment: Water Life Version 1.17
new uploaded version: abotWaterLife118.7z
comment: Water Life Version 1.18

That really shouldn't be necessary though. I always use the same file name. The only change I ever make is updating the file description to match the version.
