NV GECK Help

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:16 am

I wanted to try the GECK for NV bur everytime I try to open the GECK.exe application in my downloads folder, it says "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_38.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I trie re-installing but it didn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using Windows 7 or Vista? If so, you'll need the http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d. Extract the package to a temporary location, then from that location run DXSETUP.EXE to actually install. Windows 7/Vista comes with DirectX 10/11, which aren't backwards compatible with earlier versions. That *should* fix the problem. If not, I think I can scrounge up the file and post a download link for it.

Alright so I downloaded Directx and installed it. Everything went smoothly but it didn't work, all it did was add a crapload of Winrar icons on my desktop. So I just found an individual download for the missing dll file and injected it into the archive of the Winrar file containing GECK.exe. Then it said I was missing another dll so I repeated the previous steps. Then it said I was missing ANOTHER dll file. Repeated again and now it says "The procedure entry point vorbis_window could not be located in the dynamic link library libvorbis.dll. Again any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That's terribly confusing... why are you adding anything to an archive? You should be extracting the archive the GECK comes in into your New Vegas folder, then running GECK.exe from said New Vegas folder.

Instead of the large DirectX installer, you can also use the version that scans what DirectX components you have and just downloads what you're missing:

Did you run the setup.exe file? If not, then it won't work. I'd extract the archive to a temporary folder, then run setup.exe. That way you can delete everything in one fell swoop after it's done its thing.
