Discussing Install & gameplay

I preordered this game fully expecting it to arrive here and install as all other games from Bethesda has. This game, Fallout New Vegas, is not even close for the ability to install without any internet connection. I am very angry with Bethesda because of this. When I am playing I simply do NOT like having to be connected to the internet to play a non-multiplayer game. After the install I played for a short while and saved the game or so I thought but when I tried to restart the game and play offline I could not do this as it would not allow it. I reconnected to the internet and finally it restarted so I could continue to play. After the game finally got all of the updates I played for several hours after I disconnected from the internet. I saved the game again at that point and turned off my system. The next time I attempted to play the game I was again forced to connect to the internet for even more updates. After all of the 'new' updates were finished, I found that none of the several hours pf play that was done between the initial install and the second forced download was there. So now I have at least 4 to 5 hours of gameplay that got thrown out the window just because I don't like to be connected to the internet while I play single player games on my computer. The other problem I have is the fact that in NONE of the preorder material I read did it say that I would be forced to join Steam and open an account just to play the game. I do NOT like to be forced to join places that I would NOT otherwise have joined.

You cannot just disconnect from the internet with Steam. You have to switch it too offline mode first.

(Top left of Steam window, click steam, click go offline)

Once offline, it'll remain that way and you can play to your hearts content.

As for use of Steam, it's been known for over half the year that it would require Steam for online authentication (Surely you saw mention of Steamworks) if you read nothing of the sort, then the information you had was incomplete.
