Stuck in a quest

Post » Fri Sep 25, 2009 2:13 pm

I've been tasked by Seridur in IC with killing a vampire, but the trail has cast the suspicion back on him, and I'm doing the investigation. I'm supposed to talk to Phintias at The First Edition about him, but after maxing out his disposition toward me at 56, he still won't spill the beans. How can I get him to talk when I can't raise his disposition further? Do I need to enchant him, or drink a potion to raise my personality or something?

According to UESP his disposition towards you has to be 60+ for him to spill. Have you tried a Charm-spell? That's what I would go for at that point.

Cast a charm spell if you don't have a high illusion skill you can just buy a scroll at any of the magic stores nearby and bribe him if you haven't already.

Just keep bribing him until his disposition rises above 70.

Isn't it possible to KILL him, rob his stuff and move on, as if nothing at all had happened ?

Phintias is essential haha. And how would that accomplish finding out where Seridur is located?

I didn't think of bribing him cause I never use that. Guess I'll throw a couple of my current 19 coins his way =)

I feel that the persuasion mini-game is silly, so my characters don't generally bother with it. I've never encountered an NPC that I couldn't bribe to a high enough disposition to get the desired result. Just jingle the purse, and drop the coins on the counter one by one... ;)

Be sure not to talk to the NPC with a weapon drawn. It causes a 10 point drop in disposition.

Or just use charm. But ya speechcraft is the most useless skill in the game haha.

I wish they had simply incorporated speechcraft into the dialog possibilities, so that we could get disposition results based upon what we actually say to NPCs. Too much to ask, I guess.

Well they did for Whodunit although in kind of a limited fashion. Such a fun quest.

My character doesn't do much in the way of magic yet (she will later). I use the mini-game to bump disposition to where people will talk to me and to get better prices, but other than that not really. However, in this case I'm gonna have to try something else it seems. Is the max disposition via the mini-game limited to anything related to your character, or does it simply vary from NPC to NPC?

Wait a moment, can't you draw a weapon to reduce current disposition, do the mini-game up to max (which depends on your speechcraft skill only), and then sheath the weapon to get the 10 points back (on top of the max from the mini-game)?

You can't bribe when you're out of cash, but threats are cheap!

NPC disposition is directly related to your Personality, and is affected by your character's Race, Fame level, and Faction.

Actually, drawing your weapon and chatting with him is useful precisely because it lowers dispo by 10- it unlocks the disposition mini-game, so you can attempt it again, since he's no longer at a max disposition. So, if you're maxed at 56, draw your weapon. Now he's at 46- chat him up again. Repeat as necessary. Eventually the incremental gains will get you where you need to go.

Or if course, you can bribe him for chump change- an NPC's favor comes pretty cheaply. :D

Charm him with a spell or scroll. You could also take out your sword, max the disposition, then put the sword back in for a boost.
