Arena and Daggerfall on Steam or GOG

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:29 am

I would like Bethesda to consider releasing TES: Arena and TES 2: Daggerfall on Steam or GOG as a free download.
By doing so, programs like Xfire can use their install process and get it supported, since they're DOS games.
You won't lose anything, but you could connect several groups of gamers and hopefully make them play it once again. :)

@NazzerDawk: I know that they are downloadable, but you don't seem to understand my point here...
I'd like them to release the games there aswell, so that programs like Xfire can support it.

That would require some reprogramming, which is impossible since the source code for both games has been lost. Even then, simply releasing them on GoG or Steam won't make them magically "compatible" with stuff, they both still require DosBox to work (or an actual DOS machine) - There would be no point at all to doing this

How does a game company loose their own source codes too their own games? Is that even possible :( don't they back up?

According to Xfire GM's, games wouldn't require any kind of reprogramming to be supported.

You can add shortcuts for Arena and Daggerfall to Steam -- I have done so.

Not sure what Xfire is, but it looks to be some sort of instant messenger or chat client. Since neither Arena nor Daggerfall are online/multiplayer, I'm not sure what benefit you'd get with "full" integration.
