Using walkthroughs as a first timer of FO3

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:10 pm

Hey guys, just got the GOTY version last week for DA EXBAWKS, my first of this series and never played any of TES series. Needed something new for when I need a break from BF3 MP. Just beat Rage and was a BIG fan of B-lands so wanted to give this a try as I see its compared a lot to it. started playing, got out of the Vault and did some venturing and man, this world is HUGE. I youtubed some stuff and saw that I should get the intelligence b-head asap at Rivet City, even before goin to M-Town, and so I did. and then I felt like I was cheating, like so early in game. I really didnt use a guide in Rage, more for finding cards. and in b-lands, not reallly til end of game to help find the stronger guns.

my ? is with this type of game, how many of you used the aid of a guide? how many just went explorer and found it fun and or frustrating? I know part of the experience is finding things on ur own but lets be honest, this is 2011 and its not like my old Nintendo days of playing Zelda, dragon warrior, faxanadu, etc where u spent countless nights trying to complete one mission!!! now with access to internet and strat guides, its almost like ur hand walked thru everything. Now I know theres hardcoe guys that would say its noob so I guess this goes more for the casual gamer which is prolly like 80% of the community, did u use the guides? any help or flaming will be appreciated... :foodndrink:

p.s.-I HATE that you cant run (I play a lot of FPSs) but Im seeing in this game, running can get you killed....

Yes, running is noisy and will get you killed unitl you get the silent running perk. I am on my 6th play through and I still use a guide for the main quest and all the DLC. When I first started the game, I go very frustrated with not knowing what to do or where to go. I had never played a game of this sort and I immediately went online and found as much information as I could. It made the game more enjoyable for me.

I wouldn't use a walkthrough..it's not that hard/confusing of a game.

Much more fun and enjoyable if you don't use a walkthrough. Especially since Fallout 3 isn't that complicated of a game. The only reason I could see someone needing to use one is if you want to find that "really awesome cool weapon."

Yeah that's fine to do that later on when you've played through the game and just coudn't figure it out. But come on, not on your first play-through.

To each his own though.

Don't use walkthroughs, and stay away from the wiki and "cheats, hints, and spoilers" section of the forums too. You will get a lot more "OMG RANDOMZ DEATHCLAWZ" moments then. Oh wat. You dont know what a deathclaw is. He's a hint: it's your worst nightmare, or at least they were before Beth. nerfed them

I agree with the others: no walkthroughs. At least on your first three plays. Yes, I said three. You bought the game for enjoyment and surprise... why negate it?

For me it's fun to just play and be lost. It's not a win or lose type of game. I've always believed that Bethesda doesn't make games. They make worlds.

Would you buy a game, give it to a friend and let him play it through while you are watching? Thats basically what Walkthroughs are... Someone else playing the game, with you just a spectator.

Play the game all the way through a couple times first, and then you can use the Walkthroughs later when you want to find the last few places you heard about but never found.
