why dragon themselves cannot shout?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 10:01 pm

that is not cool. I never seen a dragon use shouts like slow time, whirlwind sprint or storm call.

The dragons do shout, but they don't get the cool ones. For instance a regular dragon will have fire breath and the 'breathe fire' shout. Difference is the shout comes out as a fireball.

Maybe the named dragons get cooler shouts. I'll often kill a dragon without seeing it do anything but melee/breath tho

They do! Didn't you notice the blue shockwave that came out of the first dragon's pie hole? It's the first one you see when your head is on the chopping block!

They do shout. I was fighting one the other day. (I have subtitles turned on my PS3) During the fight it displayed Dragon: (then it named his shout)

For a moment I though you just divided by zero, and then I read the second comment.

They do. At the beginning of the game, Alduin uses "FUS." Also, if you listen closely, every dragon that breathes fire on you is actually yelling "YOOOOOOL," which is the same thing you say for the fire shout. They also do the frost shout.

I haven't seen any others though.

Turn on all subtitles, and get into a fight with a dragon, before they breath they say dif things depending on the dragon. i believe fire is Yol, which is fire in "dragon."

Besides Alduin using Storm and Unrelenting Force, I agree more of the random dragons should have some of the cooler shouts. It would make some dragon fights a bit more interesting.

On another note, I know people have been saying they get bored quickly with dragon fights, but I can honestly say after downing 8 or 9, I still find them fun cause of the random places and terrain they appear on, making each one different in some way.

There is a loading screen tip that tells you specifically that when a Dragon uses it's breath attack, it's really just yelling at you.

A brutal battle between 2 dragons is really just a heated verbal debate.

Mimicking what everyone else says, they do shout. When they breath fire on you or frost they are using a shout.

people, he is asking why dragons dont use shouts other than fire and frost...

i wonder the same thing. considering how easy dragons are compared to other high-level enemies, id imagine giving them some of the other shouts would make fighting them all the more fun and challenging. especially when theyre grounded, something like whirlwind sprint or unrelenting force could make their last stand actually intense and challenging rather than the brief period of pressing the attack button until you get your dragon soul...

im guessing bethesda didnt care to balance out any of the other shouts for NPC use; just look at the draugr's fus ro dah that barely staggers you.

Well, could you imagine a dragon using the Whirlwind shout or use Kyne's Peace? I mean seriously, what use would they really get out of those? I could see Whirlwind when they are flying to get somewhere in a warp drive sort of way, but fire and ice is pretty powerful in itself.

Well, they aren't Dragonborn, so they had to teach themselves the Thu'um, and aren't nearly as powerful as one who is Dragonborn.

If you just go so far as High Hrothgar, you'd see a fine example of this.

I thought I saw a dragon use whirlwind shout once, it zoomed through an arch, straight behind me, at some temple mountain once. Though, that might have been a glitch.

I dunno, some of the dragons seem to have quite cold conversations.

That joke aside, I wish dragons were given a few random shouts to vary them up a bit.

Yes, it is pretty disappointing. The only thing dragons do is fire or ice shout. Nothing else changes. The various named dragons, and not even Alduin or Paarthurnax use any other shouts. I expected as much, but it is still disappointing that they chose to make the dragons so limited shout wise.
