Dark Elf Male voice... anybody else hate it?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:16 am

First off, I love Skyrim and about 99% of the things in it. About 65 hours in so far, and the experience has been absolutely wonderful.

That being said, there's one thing that bothers me. And that's whenever I have to hear a dark elf male... Anybody else notice their voice and dislike it? It almost has the hint of an older, Australian man (with a weak accent, not a very strong one).

While I find this game to be far superior to the previous TES games, I'm missing the dark elf voices from Morrowind right now haha.

Yes I am disappointed by the Dark Elf voices and with most of the male nords. I don't want to hear Arnold and I wanted raspy voices. Can't change it though

Bethesda pulled a fast one on us and replaced all the actors from the E3 Demo with even worse ones.

I find them fitting. It has been rumored the Dunmer of Morrowind only sounded like that because of all of the ash from Red Mountain causing their vocal cords to get raspy and such. So it could be that Dunmeri who have been bred and born in Skyrim where the air is crystal clear and the streams are pure their voices could be rid of the raspy accent.

They sounded wrong in Oblivion though... really, that was horrifying. Skyrim is doing it pretty decently I think.

Good, I wasn't the only one who thought of a bunch of Conan's when talking to male Nords....

Unfortunately, Dark Elves live for hundreds of years. So some should have still had the raspy voices.

I don't hate the voice acting in Skyrim in fact I love the Dark Elf voice the most. The thing I hate the most I hear the same [censored] voice over and over and over again(particularly the Nord voice). I mean didn't Bethesda hire +70 voice actors to make it seem less repetitive? Maybe, it's just me and I'm missing the other voices.

There are thousands of NPCs in the game. 70 voices actors isn't going to work, but it's way better than the 12 actors in Oblivion.

i dont hate it, but i kind of feel cheated... we heard the raspy voice in the demo and everyone was like "oh cool dark elves sound awesome again" and then the game comes out and the dunmer are all like "g'day mate!" and were all like "WTF why you no have gravel in your throat?!"

i mean, their voices would be fine if beth hadnt trolled us with the classic raspy voice only to snatch it away at the last minute.

No doubt its miles above Oblivion's voice acting. I can deal with the repetitive voice acting cause because its much better then Oblivion's voice acting, but I really find that Nord voice for the guards to be annoying.

I hate the sound of MY Dunmer Male. The pain noise is the exact same pain noise of the FEMALE Dunmer in Oblivion and it drives me friggin' nuts.

As a joke, for DLC, they should send you to this realm full of 60 Dunmers who all have a raspy voice. However, when you get there, turns out they all have the voice of Fargoth and in order to leave the realm you have to speak to them all and then go find their lost rings.

I'd of liked the morrowind style dunmer voices. Nord voices however, are awesome.

"You dare defy the might of the Imperial Legion?!" "Pay with your blood!" "Stop right there criminal scum!"

I kinda feel a little nostalgic for the Imperial guard voices. I'm still waiting for a Nord guard to shout "GET IN DA CHOPPA!"

I don't mind the Ah-Nuld voice at all.

And the Dark Elf voice? It's freakin' Harbinger from Mass Effect 2! Or Joshua Graham from Honest Hearts!

Are those the ones all voiced by Gideon Emry? I know I walked into an Imperial Camp and every single guard there was voiced by Fenris from Dragon Age 2. Kind of a shame he is relegated to such a small role, I thought he was a good voice.
