Ideas for Total Immersion

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 3:12 pm

UESP had a very nice roleplaying section with Oblivion, I hope they do the same with Skyrim, but meanwhile... Here's some fun things that make the game quite a lot of fun for me. I think these little things are what make TES game so good.

- The obvious stuff: Force yourself to sleep every night. When you sleep, take your armor off and wear clothes that resemble pajamas. Take off boots and helmet. If you can't sleep over a period of more than 24 hours, poison yourself with something, to simulate tiredness and lack of sleep. Try to have 3 meals a day. If the quality of the meals you're eating is inferior, simulate lack of nutritional diversity by: If you contract a disease, wait a bit before curing it, to simulate a weak immune system.

- Vitamins: When I wake up every morning, I take one minor potion of healing and one minor potion of stamina, to simulate taking "vitamins and supplements." After all, we're trying to be a hero here.

- "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" - Eat an apple every day when you wake up.

- Learning about the world: Read at least one book a day, either during lunch or before sleep. Don't carry more than 5-6 books with you at any time, store them somewhere. Books are heavy and a warrior needs to carry other things, even if he/she is a warrior/scholar.

- When living in the College of Winterhold, or when sleeping/living in any share quarters, "lose" some things to simulate a [censored] roommate stealing from you, especially food.

- Before you leave a town, pray at the local shrine to simulate asking the gods for success.

- If you unintentionally hurt a companion, part ways with him/her to simulate a falling-out.

- If you kill an enemy and you respect their courage in combat, do not loot them. Instead, place their body in a proper, dignified pose and place some mountain flowers near the body.

- Do not hunt/kill animals unless they attack you - be an environmentalist.

- Do not eat any meat - be a vegetarian.

- Do skooma at least once a day, or drink a few bottles of wine/ale at night to simulate drug use/alcoholism.

- "Pickpocket" women to simulate sixually harassing them.

- When you go dungeon diving, force yourself to either use a torch or a light spell.

- Be a part of only one guild at a time.

- Sell your soul/fool the gods: Either keep all daedric artifacts, or return all of them.

- If you find yourself outside, traveling long distances in inclement weather, poison yourself to simulate catching a cold.

- Remember how armor and weapons wore down in Oblivion? Simulate it in Skyrim to the best of your abilities.

- Work at the smith/lumber mill at least a couple of hours a day to simulate having an actual job.

Etc, etc... Add to the list!

Jeez...I want to do this! I'm seriously doing this next playethrough. It sounds so fun!

I tried doing this for my Oblivion character. I lived in Anvil in my house and slept every night and woke every morning. I slept with pajamas and woke up to wear regular clothes. I eat breakfast first, than I go to the Chapel of Dibella and I would pray. After that I would go and talk to some people pretending they were my friends. After this I would go to my manor and dress in my armor and go out to work. I mostly hunted for a job things like that. That is my morning and evening in Oblivion...I'm gonna do something like that in Skyrim.

Actually, recently it's been found that vitamins don't actually do that much. It works FAR better to just eat healthily.

Never really got into this. I go to sleep and wake up in real life I also eat and go out with friends. I play games to slay beasts and destroy familys. Not to do a checklist of every day stuff over and over again.

But to each his own my good man. To each his own.

On my next char I'll "roleplay" hard, used to do that in Daggerfall and Morrowind.
Btw, some of the RP tips are really nonsense, haha.

I get completely 100% immersed in Skyrim without even trying. I just zone out for hours on end. I stop moving my limbs, I don't feel itches, the tempurature in my room, or sounds outside of the game.

It's a wonderful curse.

However, as far as suggesting things. Make your volume loud, so that it is the prominent sound in your room/house, but not super loud of course. Turn of lights and make it as dark as possible in your play area. Sit close enough to your monitor/tv so that it fills a majority of your view. For my 22" monitor that is about 16-20 inches. If on PC, find a graphical setting that balances performance, as to avoid frame rate drops, and quality, so your not in a blocky blurry world of lameness.

- Don't pick up arrows you shot into bodies, they would obviously be damaged.

- No fast traveling. Pay to take the caravsn/chariots from city to city, walk everywhere else.

- When you're in the mountains and it's cold, wear extra layers of clothing or warmer clothing.

- Make a pilgrimage to your favorite Daedric Lord's shrine once a week/month.

- Whenever you notice a bench, chair, take a break. Sit down for a second and drink some ale.

I like the idea of having some "friends" in town that you always talk to/visit.

And yeah, some of these ideas are pretty intense, but makes the game a lot of fun. I personally don't do all of them, but I certainly do some.

Actually that depends on what they hit. As long as they miss bone, they would be fine. If you stab someone with a knife it's fine and can be used again, so why would an arrow be any different? As long as the shaft is intact and not bent (which it shouldn't be) and the arrow head is in good condition (if it misses bone) you could remove it, maybe wash it off, and use it again no problem.

That's not true, sometimes the arrow hits where there are no armor (or maybe the enemy is not wearing a single piece of armor) or bones (for humans, in the neck, stomach. and for non-humans depends of their skin type, etc.).

I guess that makes sense, about the arrows. I was just thinking the head of the arrow would be damaged by the impact.

Actually, no, not neccesarily. Thats why only a small amount of the arrows you shoot can be picked up from bodies, the others have been damaged beyond use. Not all arrows would break, unless you were fighting someone in heavy armor or with thick, scaly skin.

EDIT: wow, double-sniped.

Not necessarily, I know people who have shot multiple deer with the same arrow...if the cutting edge is sharp it passes right through.

Now, of course, deer don't wear heavy armor...
