"Broken" Master Trainer

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:42 pm

In an effort to prevent the unnecessary deaths of certain master trainers who seem prone to walking themselves into untimely deaths, I edited them to be "essential", and have now come across a rather unhealthy error. Upon completion of Alawen's "quest", the training symbol does not appear. I'm concerned that I may have somehow irreversibly glitched this particular NPC into never offering training now, as the icon doesn't appear even with the modifications removed.

Is there some way of repairing this little oversight so that she'll start offering training once again, or am I stuck with a master trainer who refuses to be of any help to me at all?

She only trains from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. Could it be that you are approaching her during her "off-hours"?

You can try "getstage TrainingMarksman" (no quotes) in the console to be sure the quest completed. If it returns a value less than 100, try "setstage TrainingMarksman 100" to complete it properly. If it returns a value of 200, that means Alawen already died at some point (maybe you resurrected her via console?) and thus the quest cannot be completed. In that case, you'll need to find or make a plugin that adjusts that quest to make it completable in some way.

If all you did was set her to essential, that would not have affected her training in any way. If you edited the training quest at all, that could permanently affect your saved game, but the console commands above will get around that for you.

Just a note, too, the Unofficial Oblivion Patch makes her essential until you have completed the quests. You shouldn't be without the UOP. :P

I've already figured out what went wrong with her (and the other three "outdoors" master trainers). Needless to say, this is an oversight that I won't have to worry about a second time, now that I have an actual "Essential Master Trainers" mod that works exactly as it should. :pinch:

Uhh........no. I don't download mods that fix things which don't need to BE fixed, especially when you can't pick and choose exactly WHAT gets "fixed". That, and the whole purpose of playing the game with a mod that makes her (and others) permanently essential is so that I don't have to put up with her "running off & getting killed" stunts like I did when I played this on the XBOX 360. <_<
