Race dialogue is disappointing.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Skyrim, but the race dialogue is very disappointing. In Morrowind and Oblivion I played as a Nord... to try and get the character to look like me. In Skyrim I chose to go a different route and rolled a Khajiit. The intro dialogue is different for each race, sure, but after the intro race specific dialogue becomes very rare. If I didn't play in third person and see my awesome tail all the time, I would probably forgot what race I was playing. The only time, other than the random cat that some NPCs rarely throw in dialogue, that I have noticed anything race specific was that as a Khajiit I don't have the option to ask the Caravaners about their homeland. That's it.

I love the game. It's now my #1 all time. Just wish race selection mattered in dialogue.

Also, while I'm talking about Khajiits, both my hair and facial hair clip with every single helmet in the game. There isn't a single helmet that my hair isn't clipping through... This too has been upsetting, but i'm dealing with it. Wish they'd have tried harder with making the helmets and head gear fit every race. The maskless cowl for the DB is almost entirely embedded in my head... lol.

.The blacksmith at riverwood said he might have some eleven armor in stock and since high elves wear that a lot I'm sure he was referring to that. Some of the guards say things like "watch yourself elf" but other than that yeah I agree with you, there could be more racial dialogue.

I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get any responses from Dunmer in general, or the people in Windhelm regarding the fact that I am an Argonian.

The only time I really see someone acknowledge what kind of race I am is when I’m talking to a fellow Argonian. It doesn’t make sense that you don’t get hated on by a lot of people in the game, mainly Nords who believe Skyrim belongs to them. Met one gentleman who apparently hated wood elves with a passion, he also didn’t care for Argonians. So naturally I walked up to him to exchange some dialogue and he treated me like a friend. Doesn’t make one lick of sense.

As a Nord I get a ton of it, then again it's pretty clear you're meant to play as cookie cutter sword and board nord dovahkiin in this game.

You don't get near as much racial trash talk in this game as you did in Oblivion. Not a fraction. No "Die you mangy housecat!" and "You'll make a fine pair of boots, Lizard!". I miss that. :( Almost level 25 and I've heard "Imperial" mentioned to my character (never as an insult) about five times. Its kind of boring.

I'm currently playing a Dunmer and during a quest I got some race specific dialogue. Plus I found an area that only a certain race can get into without doing a quest. It isn't much, but it is there at least.

This is the most shocking. I noticed it on my Imperial too... you'd expect some good old fashion hatred in certain areas... guess the nords can't tell the difference between themselves and imperials?

The dialogue is bad at all.
Had a brawl with a NPC in an Inn and right after the fight I started a conversation and he said: "Nice to see you again, friend." (something like that)...like, what the [censored]? We just had a fight, you offended me hardcoe, now, 5 seconds later, I'm your friend and you missed me? wow.

I've had one guy say "out of my way, boot" (playing an argonian). Besides that, there's not that much racial specific dialogue. For how much I hear about the nords having their land taken away from all the other races you would think there would be more blatant racisim and you would expect to be treated differently.

I think it's just from a gameplay perspective that Bethesda chose to not let the game change just cause of what race you pick. TES is all about choice after all.

play in third person and see my awesome tail all the time...

Indeed :hehe:

But yes, there is too little reaction to your race. Especially khajiits, considering that their the caravans aren't even let into the towns.

However, random dark elves have attacked me for no reason in the world, does that happen with other races?

The only time I really see someone acknowledge what kind of race I am is when I’m talking to a fellow Argonian.

Strange then that other khajiits seem to be oblivious that i'm playing a khajiit

I get TONS of dialog where people refer to me as a 'Brother, Kinsman, or Fellow Nord'. I, obviously play as Nord, and I imagine that were I something else, each of these comments would be different race specific ones. Sure, they don't shove your race down your throat, but I hear it enough to be satisfied.

It's also a little weird in the main questline. We all fought the first scripted Dragon of Whiterun. When they find out I'm Dragonborn, I'm rolling a Dunmer. They ask what their general thinks, she says something and remember she's a Dunmer too, and then they say she wouldn't understand because she isn't a Nord. Hello I'm standing like inches to you. I'm a Dunmer Dragonborn. So it has nothing to do with a Nord. And on that fact of the matter if another Dunmer is Dragonborn by golly shouldn't she comment on that very fact? It breaks my suspension of belief and immersion when things like that happen.

The game changing based on who your character is IS the REASON for choices in TES games. ATM race matters less than anything else, even though the entire storyline revolves around race.

Playing as a Breton, I haven't heard even one mention of my race, for one way or the other. Perhaps because Breton and Nord history and heritage share common threads, and the Nords don't racialize Bretons to any great extent.

Or, maybe I'm intellectualizing an unfortunate content omission.
