Im NOT getting many dragon encounters

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:42 am

I've seen too many posts saying "i encounter dragons so frequently"; while im level 30 and have 45 hours of gameplay (not much, yes, but still..) and i've only met 4 or 5 dragons. which is really weird considering many others are getting dragons so frequently.
Although one of the most common thing was "I encounter a dragon when i fast travel to a city", and i don't fast travel. does that impact the chance of dragons? If so, that'd be weird.

For the main quest:
Spoiler
I've completed the greybeards training, and now the greybeards have nothing else to do except give me random locations of words, is that the main quest? I've got an innkeeper asking me to go to a dungeon as well. (i think thats the main quest lol)

Also, 2 of my 4 dragons werent random encounters, one was scripted, and the other was when i went to kill it for the bounty.

I've played about as much time as you and I've enountered about 9 or 10 dragons, and I don't fast travel. :/ Although I have met a few close to small settlements. Do you wander about a lot? I've also heard (just from an NPC, so it could just be pvssyr) that dragons tend to stay away from paths, so maybe you just need to wander a bit more.

Yeah... you're not that far into it at all.

That's probably why.

Have you been to Windhelm? The Jarl/steward there has a dragon related misc. quest for you. Not exactly a random encounter, but it will get you fighting a dragon.

After that point in the main quest, I started encountering more dragons than ever. I guess it's just random. Better luck tomorrow!

By my reckoning, you get one dragon per game session. If you crash or quit, then resume, stay in the game long enough, you'll have another encounter. I think that sometimes you have to keep your eyes open to spot dragons in the distance. You might have to travel to the dragon's location because they being off a good ways might not come to you. I got my last one by by chasing for a good distance to a place that look like the geysers and hot springs in North Island NZ. That was my toughest fire-breathing dragon ever — I totally ran out of health potions but finished him with 5% HP remaining.

I had the same problem before I knew how to fix it. Without spoiling anything for you..

Go talk to the innkeeper the main quest tells you to talk to. Do her quest. Once you get past the main quest that has you kill a dragon in Kynesgrove - you will notice a dramatic increase in dragon attacks on your person.

I'm aware it's random, yes. But i've tested this on three characters, and the results are the same. After Kynesgrove, I get a dragon at least once every 35-40 minutes.

My highest character is only 36, and I aven't even completed the main quest yet - but the Breezehome chest is absolutely loaded with bones and scales. About 200 each.

I hope this helps.

Join the College of mages. I seem to be getting them every 2nd or 3rd time whenever I travel there. Easy and handy way to get bones and scales also as the mages normally nuke it into Oblivion before you have time to unsheathe and your storage dorm is right beside the encounter.

Yea, i find that they like Winterhold a lot, both of my random dragon encounters were near winterhold. Dragons love magic :celebration:

Cliffracers are annoying as hell, and they look so fugly!

Dragons on the other hand...the word i'll describe them is .... Majestic.
And the way they fly....WOooooo!! just beautiful!!

yea and keep your eyes out for them. i saw 1 quite a distance away just circling around, and i just stopped and spammed screenshots lol
another one, i saw perched on a ledge. it looks so cute just perched there like a bird!

Level 21 and about 50 hours in and saw about 10 dragons.

They usually attack while i'm in towns. Which means sometimes having to reload due to finding dead named NPC's

As people have said they are random, I have only met a few myself at 50ish hours (though have yet to go say hi to the greybeards).
There are a few dragon mounds dotted around that usually have a word wall and a fixed dragon.
