Never had the problem.

Disc read problems can be one of a couple of things. Either the disc is faulty or your console is.

If you can, try exchanging the disc for a new one. If you can't do that then try installing the game to the HDD.

Tried with another game? If your other games have the same problem, that's not the DVD, it's the laser lens of your console.
If your other games work well, perhaps your NV disc has some kind of flaws. You should replace your game with a new one.

I've gotten the same problem. Though my story is a little different. I installed the game to my harddrive so it would run faster. Then came an update for New Vegas and i thought *sure its probably a bug fix* BAM! Then it said that i should redownload my game? So i deleted New Vegas from my harddrive and tried just to play it uninstalled. Then it says : Disc is unreadable. I've tried with other games and they work perfectly fine. I've even traded in my new vegas for another copy since the problem could be on the disc but no. Its the damn update that killed my game.
Any advice? And please dont say try xbox.com cus they just tell me to trade it in for another copy.

Well I'm gonna send my xbox to repair since new vegas isnt the only game that ive had the error with.If you think the update is the problem the just delete it.Clear your system cache.

I have a similar problem where I put the disc in, but it doesn't read. I get two buzzing sounds and then I get the "open tray" like there is no disc in there. Many times I have to open and close the tray as many as 20 to 30 times before it does finally read and fire up. I was looking out on the xbox.com forums and it looks like this is a problem that came out of the fall dashboard update (although microsoft is not admitting that). There are a ton of threads and posts there from people all having the same problem (with any game disc, especially newer games) that just started after the dashboard update in November.
Unfortunately I have not been able to find a good solution out on those forums as of yet and from what people have posted there, microsoft just keeps telling them its not an update problem and they need to send their xbox in for repairs.
Funny thing is no one had the problem before the dashboard update and then everyone posting starting having it after.

I've actually had that issue. Not with New Vegas, but with other games. A long time back, it happened when I bought Bioshock. Even though the disc was brand new, I couldn't run it. I called Xbox support and they suggested that my disc drive was beginning to fail. I sent in my Xbox (was covered by my extended warranty) and it resolved the issue.
