Guild/Great House Conflics?

Post » Sun Sep 27, 2009 9:58 am

I was wondering if I will wonder into any conflicts by joining and completing EVERY quest in all of the following:

Great House:

- Hlaalu

(Maybe Telvanni)

Guilds:

- Thieves

- Mages

Cults:

- Temple

- Healers

It would be great if anyone could answer this for sure, and it would be even better if anyone knows of a list of all of the conflicts between great Houses, guilds, and cults.

Thank you in advance!

There should be no conflicts between the Imperial Cult and the Temple although the disposition can get a little wonky. If you rise high enough in both it shouldn't be a problem.

Likewise there's no animosity between Hlaalu and Thieves' or very much between Hlaalu and Telvanni.
Spoiler
There's one quest high up in Hlaalu that involves killing a Telvanni but it won't make a huge difference in the main quest or when traveling through Telvanni towns.

You didn't list Fighters but if you ever intend to join them
Spoiler
there's some very real and serious issues between them and Thieves and without carefully paying attention to character dialogue you may make a big mistake and render one or both unfinishable.

:D Thank you for the help!

I don't really want to join the Fighter's Guild thank you though.

I know that you can't join two Great Houses so would there be any conflicts between:
Thieves and Telvani?
Mages and Talvani?
OR
Mages and Hlaalu?
Thieves and Hlaalu?

And either way what about:
Mages and Thieves?

Alright Never mind I decided on Redoran!!

So are there any conflicts between:

Redoran, Mages Guild, and Thieves Guild

It would really help me out if I can get a quick answer because I really don't want to start a Guild until I know for sure it will be safe...

You may lose a bit of disposition for being in all three, and the Thieves Guild requires you to steal a few items that belong to Redorans, but as far as I am aware there are no conflicting quests, and you should be able to complete all three factions.

I cannot remember if the Mages Guild and House Telvanni conflict in any quest-breaking ways, but they reallllly hate each other, so your character will likely get into some trouble :P

The House/Guild conflicts are mainly for RP; from a practical game point of view they are mostly insignificant. You get a few minus disposition points but you make them up after a few rank raises.

You can easily do Redoran and Thieves' Guild at the same time. Just save often and be careful when thieving. Try to collect potions or enchanted items with a Chameleon effect. There are several really good items in the game. One or two are artifacts but others are gained through questing and dungeon diving. If you can get an Amulet of Shadows or Ring of Surroundings somehow your chance of getting caught at thieving will be much lower.

The only conflict is very minor. It involved disposition increases or decreases between guilds. To give an example here's the UESP article on http://uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:House_Redoran. They have no opinion one way or another on the Thieves' Guild which is good. They're also against the Cammona Tong which hate the Thieves' Guild so that works to your advantage as well. The Thieves' Guild on the other hand has a slight dislike of Redoran - negative one disposition. That's very minor. With a good Personality or enough gold you can still easily make friends in both places, especially at higher ranks and with reputation.

My character for example is in the following organizations:

Mages' Guild
Fighters' Guild
House Hlaalu
Thieves' Guild
Temple
Imperial Cult
Blades
Ashlanders
Imperial Legion

However she's completed so many quests - even becoming the leader of several of these - as well as having a Reputation over 100 and having beaten the main quest - that people literally eat out of her hand wherever she goes. The simple fact is that if you do enough quests in this game nearly everyone will recognize you and you'll get a huge reputation boost with nearly anyone.

The only thing you absolutely can't do is join more than one Great House per character. You have to play the game at least three times to do all quests.

Also, you may want to consider completing all the others before joining the Morag Tong if you wish to join it. There can be major, game breaking conflicts with a lot of the high ranking MT quests.
