Skyrim pc mods as console dlc

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:21 am

After seeing the official reply:

This game has at least 7,000,000 players. If only 1,000,000 of them download mods, that's is a LOT of money. Bethesda should straight up hire one or two guys who ONLY work on mods as DLC. They would pay for themselves within a couple months.

They could set up something like an App Store where mods would have to be approved and then they can charge console users to get them. I think they'd make a lot of money if they did it. Just lock the downloads to one specific site that Bethesda controls.

they could also add a place in the console marketplaces to lead to the app store you suggest musch like halo waypoint

Mods (created by users) are for free and official mods (DLC or expansions) are paid.

First, a quick note, this is a perfectly fine discussion topic. We do not allow threads about how to get mods onto a console, but the possibility of Bethesda releasing such content officially is entirely acceptable.

Releasing fan-made mods on consoles would be extremely difficult for Bethesda. New content has to go through extensive QA, which includes mod combinations to look for compatibility problems. This severely limits how many such mods Bethesda could release, which means they'd need sort of review process for selecting the few lucky winners. This itself would not only be time consuming, but it means dealing with the "Why did you select X instead of Y" backlash that would surely follow. I wouldn't say that this could never happen, but I do think it's very unlikely. (Similar requests were made for Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas, obviously to no avail.)

It's worth remembering that with Bethesda's open world games new content gets piled on top of eachother, and this really complicates multiple DLC releases. When developement is internal it's easier to track and test this. Even then, Bethesda has kept new content largely outside of the existing world, and kept the number of DLC relatively low. With a lot of games DLC doesn't overlap - your average game has distinct levels and additional levels don't need to take the others into consideration.

THIS! there is just too much problems.

Moderators are volunteers, we aren't employees, so my comment shouldn't be considered official in any way, shape, or form.

Even if Bethesda has the resources to select, test, and prep mods to be officially released there are other problems to contend with. Chiefly, they need to test how mods interact with eachother and how the XBox 360 and PS3 handle large numbers of mods. The former issue gets more difficult as they release more mods, and unless the latter has a very high ceiling Bethesda probably couldn't release many user-made mods.

Does anyone know or have any info about wether or not it is possible for bethesda to take pc mods for skyrim and make them into dlc for consoles. If possible is it likely to ever happen.
If this was possible it would be epic for console gamers like me.

In your dreams. . .
