How do I get Lydia out of my house?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:52 am

When you say kill her do you mean let her be killed by some other character or creature? because I didn't think you could actually kill her off she'll just revive.

No, I mean kill her yourself. She was stalking me in my Breezehome bedroom. My companion and I just attacked her to the point where she retaliated, then we killed her. Dead. It's not counted as a murder and I even got a condolence letter and inheritance out of it. :D

Short of killing her, I don't think there's any way to get rid of her. Note that if you become the thane of any city, you will get a housecarl for the house in that city.

I'm considering bringing these housecarls with me to a dungeon and just not making an effort to protect them.

She just stands in doorways and over my bed. She's really intrusive and in the way. How can I kick her out?

Tell her you want a commitment.

You can send her over to the Sky Haven Temple and let her be a Blade.

The first time I saw the word housecarl, I thought "housecat." So think of Lydia as a human housecat. If you're a Khajiit, this is even better.

Come home one night exausted from your day of savagery and travels and greet her with a smile, tell her she means the world to you and that you want to take her to a lovely spot by the river tomorrow. Try to hint slyly that there is something important that you want to tell/ ask her. Set off early in the morning, preferably when the guards change shift so you're harder to spot; tell her that its a long journey but that it is well worth it. Don't over pack when you set off but take along a few items dear to her and always walk in front/ beside her (to avoid suspision), whilst walking make pleasant conversation and make sure to use a lot of naive pragmatism in the future tense as well as nostalgic babbling in the past tense. When you arrive at your secluded spot by the torrenting rapids tell her to wait for you whilst you're going to gather some wood for the fire, make a comment on the aesthetic pleasantness of both her and the surroundings. When you're out of sight, flank her, kill her, dismember her and throw her in the river. Optionally: Sprinkle Khajiit/ wolf/ dog hair on the bedroll, pour goats' blood on everything (have fun with this, finger painting with blood is a blast) and wash yourself off of any evidence.

Come home at the end of the day, as you would usually and report her missing to the Jarl, guard captain and all locals the next day. Note: carefull acting is needed; you're worried that it isn't typical of her to act this way and that all you know is that you came home and she wasn't there, some of her things were missing and you're distressed. Don't over act; notifying the locals and the Jarl once is enough. Talk to the guard captain every day for a week asking him if he's heard any news. Otherwise just stay secluded in your house (remember you're distressed so no wanderings or adventures).

In two weeks you can celebrate her.. err.. departure.

I walked into Whiterun one day and caught Sigurd coming out of my house...wonder what was going on while I was away? [makes bed-thumping-on-wall sound]

I'm thinking of taking her on a dangerous dungeon crawl -- and making no effort to protect her.

this is exactly what i did; went over to bleak falls at a higher level and found a frost troll. she put up a good fight, but she eventually found her resting place at the bottom of a dank hole in the ground splayed over a skeleton  .

Ahhh perhaps because she wasn't your companion at the time, so she can be killed by you when not officially in service. LOL I don't know why I care, we're the terror twins of Skyrim. She may be a little dense but it's nice to have someone watching my back for once. I forced the twins in Oblivion to follow me and wear enchanted pants for so long I think they became brain damaged :poke: .

She got finished off with a sword to the stomach. I felt it appropriate for her to die like that.

I don't know why you all are hating on lydia. I think she is sweet.I wonder how she got into that line of work? She just decided one day " I think I want to be a servant to some rich or important person".

I imagine working for some rich [censored] would be pretty tough for a housecarl, probably even more so for s pretty girl like lydia. But, I imagine making a way in life in Skyrim is pretty tough. Not much work, form the looks of it. If your not a shopkeeper or tavern worker, all the work would seem pretty labor intensive. As a housecarl at least she has a bed to sleep on and food to eat. Its nice to know she loves sweet rolls. Now, I always keep those stocked up for my loyal housecarl.

I wouldn't have minded had she stayed out of my house. Or at least stayed in the back bedroom. Unfortunately for her, she just couldn't understand the concept of personal boundaries. :P

You know what she turned out to be useful for? I bought a different house but I had so much crap in Whiterun, and it was going to take forever to drag it elsewhere. I grabbed her and made her help carry it all, and when we were done I forced her to sit on one of the thrones I found a Draugur Deathlord on in a nearby dungeon and left her there.
