I already have character slots.
It's called a separate save file.
Please tell me you use more then 1 save file per character
As someone who has played Bethesda games for more then a decade now, I can tell you only 1 save file is a recipe for disaster. They have a tendency to go corrupt eventually, and you'll lose all your progress. Please use more then 1 file per character, and never rely on auto saves either.
As for the OP: I'd love separate profiles per character. At the moment I only have one character, but I'm itching to try different builds, and am worried I'll override my main character's saves by accident. I'll probably end up using different xbox 360 profiles instead (I'm not on the PC this time around) but I'd prefer not to do so.
On the PC I keep save files for different characters in their own folder and copy/paste them into the main save folder when I want to play that character, which isn't ideal but as long as I carefully back up my saves (which is a good idea anyway) it is a workable solution.
Bioware did the whole profile thing very elegantly with Dragon Age (one of the few things I liked about that game) and I had hoped Bethesda would have implemented something similar.
