Anybody else yet to use a single perk?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:05 pm

I play on MASTER, yet I really do no wish to use any combat or armour perks in this game. I might use the merchant perks, then much much later in the game, I may use the smithing perks, so that I can make use of those rarer ignots, but I really do not wish to boost my character more than natural levelling. Funny, though, I really should use my perks, because Trolls and other large creatures one hit me into Oblivion! HAHAHA. Who else has kept all their perks. I'm level 25 by the way.

why would you not use perks? Perks ARE the leveling system!
I think you are just being stubborn.

'natural levelling involves perks'
for instance, as you level one-handed, a sword wielding character can invest in the bladesman perks to make his blade attacks more effective. If you do not do this, then you will have a hard time using your blade to its full potential at your level. It doesn't make sense not to use perks as they are the yardstick by which levelling is based.

I just have a hard time spending them...

I have a bad habbit of making new characters every single time I think I've spent a perk in the wrong spot. Which I do quite often apperantly.

I didn't say I would never use any perks, but I made a point about the combat ones. I can always choose to use them at a later stage if the game gets ridiculously hard, but as it stands, the level locking kind of ruins the game, rendering earlier areas pointless to venture back into as everything takes a single blow to kill. The combat perks add massive % to your damage capability, which would only enhance this issue. Obviously MASTER mode is extremely difficult as I had already stated, but once I complete the game and have a maxed out character, I really don't want to find myself walking up to a Troll and hitting him twice and seeing him die. I want the game to remain intimidating, challenging, because right now, I actually value that feeling of "oh my god, there's a 2 spriggans coming after me". Adding those combat and armour perks would just make the game that bit less enjoyable. So I rely on good gear and a stockpile of necessary potions. hehe.

sure, play as you want. But why not just add non-combat perks in this case? I don't think speach skills will break your idea of the game for example.

This thread doesn't make any sense. Let's start with the title.

"Anybody else yet to use a single perk?"

Dee dee dee. Who isn't going to use their perks? rename it to "Does anyone besides me refrain from using perks?" Besides, where do you rationalize not choosing perks? If you don't want to make combat more effective, choose perks in other skills.

In any given TES game how much you exploit terrain can change the difficulty of the game. He mentioned frost trolls killing him in one hit, so how do you think he beats them ?

What difficulty you are on doesn't tell the whole story.

I can see why you would save the perks, I wish I had held off a bit with mine until I knew what I was going to do for sure. Some of those perks I threw in destruction hoping it would become more enjoyable eventually I'd much rather have in light armor or one-handed now that I'm level 52 and it takes forever to level up and have switched to daggers. I just can't see not taking combat perks because really they are like a guy who has trained for years in swords learning new, more effective ways of using it in battle to inflict damage that some rookie swordsman wouldn't know. I suppose the armor ones are harder to justify, other than maybe the ones that let you run faster while using it, because as you got more experienced and wore it more you'd eventually get stronger and it wouldn't be as much of a burden as it once was.

On the bright side: At least you won't be complaining that the game is too easy.

In my original post, I should have worded it better, but I favoured the potential use of non combat perks. I guess this is just hypothetical, because I haven't used the perks, but the concept of adding massive % to combat just sounds like a game breaker for me. I always loved the concept of becoming super strong in RPG's, but then when I revisited my saves, I found the World became unrewarding and boring because you could just walk through every enemy in every location, where as before, the sense of reward was greater when you were met with a challenge. Take money in this game, for example. Finding a purse of 12 gold really feels good early in the game, then suddenly, you really couldn't even care less about picking it up. The more you develop in a game, the more charm and reward you remove, sometimes. But that is taking it to the extreme, since I'm still at an early stage. I guess I don't want this game to ever end, but at the same time, I do not want the infinite quest line to be rendered unfruitful because everything I'm rewarded with is met without challenge and no longer holds any value. Speaking nonsense? I guess I'm scared of developing in this game because I love the World in it and the sense of exploration and danger. I'm full of contradictions and crap, I really did wake up funny in the head today. hahahaha, forgive and forget me ;)

To add, I would never call this game easy. MASTER mode has it's killers. I'm more hinting at maximum character level and skill, which I assume will make everything that bit easier even without the perks, hence not wanting to use the combat perks until I can gauge the scale of enemy levelling cap.
