Chapter 1 / Prologue - Hero's Return
After retrieving the GECK from Vault 87, Hoss had been kidnapped by the notorious Enclave, who demanded the code for the purifier. Hoss had not told them the code and he was saved (if you could call it so) by none other than the Enclave's leader, "President" Eden. Several flesh wounds later, he reached this "president" who turned out to be a computer. Hoss was offered to infect the purifier's water supply, but he refused.
Now Hoss was back in the Citadel, met with salutes from every knight, initiate or paladin he passed. From the corner of his eye, he could see Knight Artemis approaching him.
"Lyons' Pride is in the lab, you'd better go." Hoss nodded at him and continued through the courtyard. He passed through the door and went down the steps to see Sarah Lyons, along with her Pride, gathered in front of Elder Lyons and Rothchild.
"...and if we go now we might still have a chance." Sarah appeared to be pleading to her father. Elder Lyons turned toward Hoss.
"Ah, we had feared that we had lost you, son of James. Do you have the GECK?" Hoss shook his head no.
"The Enclave kidnapped and interrogated me. The GECK was taken, along with several of my things." The Elder stroked his beard and sighed.
"Then I am afraid we have no time to waste, we must act now. Now, Hoss, is there anything else?" Hoss nodded.
"When I was escaping, I passed through the Colonel's room. He had a holotape containing a self-destruct code for the base. Raven Rock, the Enclave's headquarters in the Capital Wasteland is destroyed. I must warn you however, the Enclave is at war, a civil war. Half is still dedicated to its late president, while the other half is loyal only to Colonel Augustus Autumn. The soldiers at the purifier may only be loyal to Autumn, so this new may not affect them." Hoss pulled a vial from the hardcase of his T-45d power armor and offered it to Elder Lyons.
"This is the vial the President offered me. It contains a modified gene of the Forced Evolutionary Virus. He wanted me to apply this to the filter module at the purifier so any mutated creature will die when they consume the water." Elder Lyons accepted the vial and inspected it. Rothchild began to approach, showing an interest in the vial.
"Sir, may I...take that? I think the scribes would find it useful to anolyze this." The Elder looked up at him and nodded.
"Be careful now, Rothchild. Don't break it." Rothchild gently took the vial and exited the main lab.
"Father, we can't wait any longer. If the Enclave have the GECK, it'll only be a matter of time before the discover the code." Elder Lyons' expression darkened.
"Yes, Sarah, you're right. We need to secure the purifier." Lyons' turned.
"Rothchild!" The head scribe rushed back to the main lab.
"Yes, Owen?"
"Is it ready?" Rothchild became flustered, his face panicked.
"Well...Madison and I have fixed the energy problems, but we still can't do walking tests, let alone live fire situations-"
"Rothchild, can you make it work?" He stopped.
"I - I don't know, honestly."
