Fear of playing

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:45 am

Greetings,

I bought Oblivion somewhere around 2007-2008 but I never played it. I started by reading lots of guides regarding Oblivion gameplay, leveling system and so on. The thing that I feared the most was the leveling. I knew it was possible to create a so called "ultimate character" provided you played and leveled your character in a certain way, with a lot of skill management. But I just want to play the game and be all powerfull when I reach max level without caring about what skill to level at what time and how many times. But in doing so, I also know I will never have an utlimate character at max level, unless I follow a strict gaming path.
I decided to try this method at last, since I always wanted to play Oblivion, knowing its a fantastic game that appeals a lot to me. So, I was hoping if someone could assist me in how to use my skills, in order to get +5 for 3 of my attributes when I level, without over-leveling. Im not sure if im supposed to use 1 skill 10 times per attribute, or if I'm allowed to use several skills per attribute. I made the following character, choosing 1 Major skill for each attribute, except Luck ofcourse:

My character:

Race: Breton
Birthsign: The warrior
Class: Battlemage (custom)

Favorite attributes: Endurance, Luck

Major Skills: Blade, Block, Conjuration, Illusion, Light Armor, Restoration, Sneak

Now, lets say I wanna increase Endurance, Speed and Willpower first, do I use 1 skill per attribute 10 times, for a total of 30, or can I use several skills per attribute and still get +5 for all 3 attributes ?

I read the following guide, but still not sure on how to do it properly => http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Creating_an_Awesome_Character

I use the "Skill Diary Mod" which keeps track of my skills, and I also downloaded the AF leveling mod, but I prefer not to use it for now.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum. Have a http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

You can raise any combination of the skills under an Att, to get the +5 bonus. As long as they total 10. It makes no diff, if they are Majors or Minors.

It is explained in detail http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Efficient_Leveling

EDIT : Ah! I missed the link you posted. So, you are familiar with the wiki.

If you want to be powerful in Oblivion, just train your skills but never level up. EZ :)

Ha! That's very true. OR just use minors and never level. The down side is that you don't get access to the high-end gear. Then again you're so powerful, you probably don't need it.

You can also lower the difficulty slider and as it′s part of the game it′s not considered cheating. No more than above suggestions anyway :P

Once again, your mental command of the games mechanics leaves the rest of us in a state of awe.

The difficulty slider is your friend.

Some people will try to scare you into thinking leveling in Oblivion will be the most horrific experience you've ever had, but its really not as bad as you might think. Sure, you don't want to powerlevel or anything, but normal, non-perfect characters who are in the mid-20s to 30 are still very much playable on medium difficulty, and you have the benefit of getting high level loot which is something I consider important for progression.

Don't get me wrong because I hate Oblivions level scaling as much as anyone, but I've never found the appeal in staying a low level throughout my characters life.
