Anyone else turn brightness all the way down?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:06 am

in this game I seem to manage at least with just turning down brightness but Oblivion I actualy had to get mods to tone down brightness...

Just seems silly to me to put in torches and light spells and then have the world act like a lightbulb (no offense devs just think you should tone down the brightness a bit)

I like darklooking games that force me use Torches ;P looks way more realistic... In dungeons at least ;P

I believe it's relatively realistic as is. It has that flare effect if you go from a well lit area directly into a dark one. Although the effect happens in a second in the game where in real life it takes a minute or so to adjust.

As long as there is somekind of light source, you'd be able to adjust your vision to at least make out shapes. Currently I can tell if there is book shelf but have to go right up to it and put the cursor over each item to see what's there. I consider that equivalent to feeling around for things. I'm playing an assassin and creeping around with a torch just doesn't fit. Nor does having a floating sprite following me around fit in with hidding in the shadows.

I'm pretty sensitive to light and keep all the blinds closed in my house and seldom turn on lights. But there is still a little bit of light that bleeds in trough the little cracks around the draqes. Provided by streetlights and moonlight. Enough to even on a dark night allow you to see in the 'dark'.

So if your in a cave that has some kind of light source. Torches, skylights, ect; that light should bleed into other adjacent areas.

That's how I justify it anyway.

even with brightness all the way down I can still see plenty, caves and dungeons do require some light tho for details if your treasure hunting.

I don't want it to be pitch black but currently the settings seem a bit too high on default, just my opinion tho. Even with all the way down I can see just bout everything.

Ya I've turned it down quite a bit. There were no need to use torches/mage-light spells at the default setting. Now whenever my light goes out in a cave it's actually freaking dark, as it should be.

I turned it down a bit. I can see shapes and some vague details in dark areas making it workable to go without a light but dangerous if there's traps. Makes the light spell a useful but not completely necessary if I want to sneak around to hear some pvssyr while still being a lifesaver frequently.

True, I do remember oblivion being way to bright, unrealistically so.

Perhaps I have my TV settings pretty dim as well(in fact I know I do, the sun is my nemesis). So the combination provides a decent setting for myself.

I do remember I realistic mod for Oblivion that removed all none light source light. There you needed a torch to see anything. That combined with the drop torch mod made for some good times. I'm not fond with mechanics of the dual wielding equipping system. Can you currently hit say "1" to bring up a torch and then hit it again to go back to your previous weapon? Then I could see myself using it in certain dark areas to look for loot after dispatching any baddies from the shadows. Currently there is not enough quickslot items and I can't justify using one up for a torch at the moment.

unfortunately no, just ran a quick test, it will just unequip the weapon. You can just have the torch in your favorites, bring it up faster then going into inventory and rummaging there.

I would but then daytime would look too dark. Ill just wait for a mod like http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22819. I hate it how its so bright IMO it kills the fun.

I'm looking forward to a mod that turns the ambient lighting way down. Darker Dungeons for Oblivion made dungeons much more exciting.

Nope.. brightness is at the default for me. Nights are dark (and really dark, sometimes I have trouble seeing, especially if it's snowing heavily.) and days are really bright, depending where you are in the game world.
Usually that would be your monitor or t.v.'s settings settings that would make things too bright. not the game. I'd say your back light is probably turned up too high or something.

Ya I would have to say if people are having issues withthe brightness it is people's cheap TVs or monitors, I got a very nice tv and it all works like it should on default. I'd recommend people putting cash into that than a new game every 2 weeks and complaining their 500 or 600 dollar crap tv or monitor doesn't look good
