Fallout New Vegas Performance Issues

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:38 am

So I've been experiencing some stutter, freezing and crashing with my current load order. (It became really noticeable after reactivating Project Nevada) I have New Vegas Stutter Remover but I cannot tell if its doing anything as I have a lot of stutter even when I'm just walking around and my PC is more than adequate to run this game on ultra settings. The crashes really have no specific location or scenario.... twice it has occurred while walking near the outskirts of Freeside. It freezes temporarily after a load screen if I have the pip boy radio on, and once froze completely while just walking about a Wilderness cell. Hoping someone can spot something or suggest some performance tweaks.

The only mods enabled that you cannot see are the NMC Large Texture Packs, (yes Ive considered removing them but the game wasn't having any trouble with them before.)

Two things you could try:

1) Open up the Stutter Remover INI file (ie, Data\NVSE\Plugins\sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.ini) and disable the entry for bAllowSlowMotion. You could also bump up the MaximumFPS to your screen's refresh rate (usually 60 or 120) as the default 30 is a little conservative for modern power rigs.

2) Try installing the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40128 mod, which improves performance by removing certain unused, memory-wasting objects from the game (worked a treat for me, and I have a powerful rig to begin with.)

I too have experienced strange slowdowns and crashes while in Freeside and the Strip (with the revamp mods) but these two tweaks seem to have helped things a lot. Also, are you running the 3GB enabler?

Yep I think adjusting the NVSR Ini will do the trick. I'm using the 4GB enabler, dropped down to the Medium size texture pack, and installed that performance mod yesterday. I've had about 2 crashes and several hiccups since then, usually in the area near the freeside entrances. I did not know about that Ini adjustment so thank you for that. When I get to playing the game this afternoon ill let you know how it all goes.
