[RELz/WiP] Gabriels Perk Tweaks

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:39 am

Well, I created another mod to suit my taste of gameplay.
I wanted to beef up the perks for a playthrough with 1:3 perk ratio (1 perk every third level) and had a go at modding.

Some I decided were so crap that they had to merged with others.
One or two I removed.
And the rest I beefed up with other effects to make them more useful.

Like Friend Of The Night.
Frankly, it's complete [censored]. I wouldn't even take it with a 2:1 perk ratio.
But this time it's beefed up to live up to it's name.

I know it's still slightly WiP.
I'd appreciate feedback on the perk changes and possible bugs and glitches.
I think Commando might only apply it's +damage to chests but I'm not sure.

A big reason why I did this is because in Fallout 1 and 2 a perk really mattered. If I took pathfinder then I really moved faster, if I took Stonewall then I wouldn't get knocked down as much (and just about every enemy can knock you down as compared to Vegas where only a select number can do that.), if I took Lifegiver then I really gained a big boost to gained hit points per level.
I missed that.
So I wanted perks now to actually feel like I could notice their effects, that when I pick a perk, I'll notice it's effects and see that it was a good thing I chose it.

This mod is strictly for the vanilla perks. (sorry)
I'll start working on the DLC perks later when I get them for PC and beef some of them up too.

And sadly, this means all other perk mods will still have "meh" perks.
Not going to edit those, that's up to those mods' creators to do.

Oh and uh, installation is done by copy pasting the file into the data folder.
Uninstallation is done by removing that file.

Credits go to me.

It's v1.0.

Anything I missed?

Ayeah, it might not be compatible with other mods that change vanilla perks.

Old World Blues' perk changes, I didn't change Them's Good Eatin' or GRX because those are really really really really good perks.
Spoiler
¤ Atomic!

Buy a new one! :D

I live on welfare, 3400 kronor each month which translates to 340 dollars in direct terms.
I bought a computer for 10.000 kronors and pay it off with 1000 kronors each month.
If your financial situation is better than mine you could do this as well. ;)

I like this idea for a mod, where all perks actually mean something. I'm going to download it this weekend and I'll try to post some feedback once I get some time to test it out.

I'm glad someone made this mod, I've been looking for a good perk improvement mod but I haven't really found any that looked good. This mod is pretty much what I was looking for, so I thank you good sir for creating it. :foodndrink:

Oh, and do I have to have the perk ratio set to 1:3 for this mod to work, or will it work with other ratios as well?

It can work with any perk ratio, Retention was still left in as a security perk for lvl 2 in case someone picks a 1:2 or 1:1 perk ratio.
All it means with different perk ratios is that it will be a little choppy with leveling.
Everytime you get an even perk like 6 or 12 or 18 then with a 1:2 perk ratio you'll get a new set of perks.
But everything in the middle will be choppy.

Example:
You level up to 6 and get a new set of perks to choose from.
You level up to 8 and no new list of perks to choose from, you have to choose from the level 6 perk list as the lvl 9 perk list is in an odd place.
When you reach lvl 10 then you get a new set of perks to choose from. (as you've past the lvl 9 list)
And at lvl 12 you also get a new set of perks but at lvl 14 you will not get new set of perks as the next set is at lvl 15.

So it can still be used with a 1:2 perk ratio, but I'd advice using it for 1:3 perk ratio as it's more structured and because it will feel very choppy with the new perk lists.

If you don't mind that it's a bit choppy then it'll work out all right, but if you dislike how the perk lists will work and don't want to change it to 1:3 perk ratio then simply open up GECK, go to Actors>Perks then double click on every perk and change it's level requirement to an even value (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 etc).
That is on the other hand going to take maybe 10 minutes or more.

[edit]

Oh and I just updated it with OWB's perks.

Ok, I'll try it out with the regular 1:2 ratio at first and then if that is too weird I'll switch over to a 1:3 ratio

I just downloaded and installed the mod, so I'll test it out tomorrow
