Have I played OB too much?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:40 am

I have 3 separate profiles that I've logged over 150 hours on and gotten to level 30, maxing at least one skill each and doing all faction quests, main quests and side quests, and finding all unique obtainable items, including some non obtainable (emporer's robes). Have I played too much?

The problem with this question is that it is too relative to answer. It's the same as asking, "What is the best XXXX...?" Things like "too much" and "best" are values that you have to determine for yourself. We can't tell you how to think, or how to act. And we can't tell you how to play.

That said, in my opinion, no. You have not played too much. I don't consider 150 to be a lot of hours at all.

Alot? Yes.
Too much? No.

Edit: Actually, what the poster above said. It's better worded.

 Some of us have put far more hours into the game than 150. Come back when you've logged several thousand, and then we can talk. :hubbahubba:

I'm gonna answer this question for myself, though. I think I have played Oblivion "too much". But I can't help it  It's more entertaining to me than the majority of TV shows out there, and a lot of these games now adays either frustrate me, or give me a headache!

It does make me wonder though. I used to actively explore other games, buy them or rent them, bring them home, try them out, and always there was some level of disappointment. I'd been looking for a game like Oblivion for YEARS before I finally found it. Now that I have it, it's trumped out every other I've ever tryied. :brokencomputer:

But there's lots of new RPGs out there on the shelves. Are they any good? I dont know. I really dont' even have the time to find out. I only buy new games for my daughter, who is in 1st grade., but she's easy to please. :) Not like me.

It's not the hours, but the fact that you have 3 profiles. What is that... Multiple Oblivion Manager, right?

Subjectively, the question ‘have you played too much’ depends on your objectives. If your goal is to experience a solid level of achievement and understanding of the game, then it sounds as if you are there and should be proud of that accomplishment. You are now ready to move on to another game.

If however, your objective is to meld with your character and lose yourself in Cyrodiil, then, as you can see, there are many characters on this forum that have amassed much greater time in the game. That is not necessarily a good thing, it is just a thing.

Indeed, such longevity can exact a price. I typically spend about five years playing exclusively one game before moving on. I enjoy getting deeply into a game and my old mind and fingers have difficulty leaping from one set of game mechanics to another. Obviously this limits my ability to experience very many games. Such are the choices we make and I am content with mine. Your mileage may vary. :foodndrink:

I always think that a person is playing too much when they develop DVT, stop going to work, or otherwise ignore their other duties and relationships. As long as you're healthy, happy and not neglecting other areas of you life, carry on! :)

When you folks talk about "profiles," do you mean characters? What is a "profile?"

Well, as some have said, 150 hrs definitely isn′t too much. By my standards in any good game you haven′t even gotten started

Currently I have 1570 hrs on my one and only character Lothran, a Dunmer. Even made a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1183763-how-many-hours-on-a-single-character/page__view__findpost__p__17563479__fromsearch__1 specifically about how many hrs you have on a single character. Even if you combine your three, 450 hrs, it still isn′t too much imo

But only you can decide if it′s too much for you

I don't have either, but I think it has to do with the 360 (maybe PS3 as well), select your profile on the consoles so all game saves can be stored and related to one profile/ user? Either that or different character saves.

This isn't the skyrim forum either dummy! Anyway thats nothing. Some people (Like Acadian) have gotten 700+ hours on a single character. Yes, 700+. Me personally I've had several characters and spent 300+ hours on each one. Its the only game I've spent that much time on. But the game has been out for almost 5 years, so don't be throwin around those accusations of no-life.

I think it was moved from Skyrim thread? Not sure.

Either way, the OP hasn't reported back in :D

It depends on what you do.
I play Oblivion anytime it is a rainy day or none of my buddy's are outside,
I started in 2007 and so far I have racked up +1400 hours and still going.

Also, I'm assuming your not a roleplayer, usually roleplayers take their times e.g they never fast travel and take time to sit down and rest/drink and eat.
So no, Its not that bad, especially on a game like Oblivion, It is very easy to get lost in the land of Cyrodill.

@Feralikazam

This was originally in the Skyrim forum but the moderators obviously moved it.

Multiple Oblivion manager?

I have 14 characters with a total of 1080 hours played. Some of them I made just to mess with the character generation dealie. My longest played character is 507 hours and I have a couple that I played around 150 hours. I don't think you played too much, that's for damned sure. ;) Now get back in there and play some more. lol
